New Airline To Myrtle Beach?

Tue Oct 02, 2012 12:04 am

My father owns a Signarama in Myrtle Beach and one of his employees tld him today that when I was there over the summer the employee and I were having a conversation about airlines into and out of MYR and apparently I mentioned a mejor carrier that would be likely to enter MYR. He said he was pretty sure it started with a "C" and he says tht they are entering the MYR market once the new terminal is finished.

To be honest, I'm drawing a complete blank and cannot remember what airline I was talking about. Apparently it's a big US airline (but that hasn;t been confirmed)

The only ones I can think of is F9 with a few weekly to MCO and maybe DEN, or B6, though I highly doubt it. Can anybody help me out? I know it's very vague and that's why I can't figure it out. Wikipedia has nothing and G4 is already here. Could it be Air Canada? Unlikely, but you never know...

I have no information that it will, but I wouldn't fall over in shock if Frontier turned up at MYR.

I thought that but when. I mentioned it my father said that it was a "big US Airline". Personally, I think AC. could do well in MYR. Maybe a Saturday flight to Toronto or something to give Porter a run for their money.

Maybe that big US airline Sun Country? LOL. But "C" is prominent in name, is a US airline, does like vacation locales, so maybe.....

Could be. Wouldn't be a bad deal. Maybe a few weekly to MSP, and some Vacation routes like PUJ, CUN, MEX, etc. once or twice a week.

That would be great, but I think they'll see how CHS works first. Personally, I think B6 could definitely fill two or even three daily E190s to JFK and a daily flight to BOS. NK can do it with little to no connections, so B6 could definitely do it. But again, I'll but they sit back and see how HCS works before they look furthur into MYR.

The "C" could have refered to Continental. Yes they are United now, but there are still alot of people out there still calling them Continental. MYR-EWR seems quite possible.

That is already flown with a daily E45X (used to be Q400)

The terminal is about 55-60% completed. Though there is still lots of work to be done.

Sorry, I'll try to clarify.

My father owns the Myrtle Beach Signarama and I usually work there over the summer. One employee, Tim, and I were having a conversation about airlines that fly in and out of MYR, as he was going to Jamaica and was wondering how to get there. (He ended up going AA through MIA from CHS). I apparently mentioned a major US carrier that I thought would be likely to enter MYR. (I cannot remember which one). Apparently, Tim says that the airline I mentioned has announced that they will be starting MYR service once the new terminal is completed. I have no idea where he got this info, but Tim does know a lot of people around Myrtle Beach, so I wouldn;t be surprised if he got the info from somebody dealing with the airport and it is valid.

Hope that is more clear. Once again, I apologize for writing it so poorly.

if/When this happens, I'm predicting a similar setup to CHS.

3x daily to BWI (expect using the older, lower density 737s with 137 seats. They use the 143-seaters on two of the three CHS-BWI flights)
1-2x daily MDW
1x daily Wight Amendment city (for some reason STL comes to mind over HOU or BNA)
MAYBE a Florida route (But thats a big MAYBE)

BNA wouldn't constitue a Wright Ammendment city. TN is not one of the states.

I'd LOVE WN to start service from BWI. It takes 7.5 hours to drive there!

Much like MCO years ago, MYR is becoming a year round destination due to the
zillions of golf courses in the area.

We have great golf down here. I know MYR has started to take the path of ISP and many other smaller airports in offering incentives to airlines to serve here. Now, especially with the new terminal, MYR is sure busting its hump to get new airlines and new service!

My interests in WN serving MYR are purely selfish! It would shave hours off of my getting to and from, not to mention no Capital Beltway. Someone make this happen tomorrow!!

I think he's referencing that FI642 is from Monaco, though if they are takling about flying from BWI to MYR, I'm guessing they're not actually in Monaco!

Also, I'm sure NK exiting the DC to MYR market helped push WN toward MYR a bit more.

It takes about seven and a half hours to go from Baltimore to Myrtle Beach. Being able to hop a bird down would make life so much easier for a lot of us. Grab a rental, and scoot down 17 away from the tourists!

Why? They moved to an airport that it actually makes much more sense to serve MYR from given the operating costs and room for non slot controlled growth. NK and WN head to head on that route wouldn't be pretty. The MYR crowd doesn't mind NK one bit.

That's comparing apples to gravel. MCO is a year round destination because of the vast amount of attractions.. headed up by Mickey Mouse of course. Disney's half dozen resorts, sea world, convention complexes, AND proximity to surrounding beaches are what makes MCO service sustainable year round. It's not golf. Golf helps, but it's not the driving force of air travel.

If MYR were a year round destination, you'd see it reflected in the level of their service and the performance of those flights. In the summer it's boomtown.. winter it's just another small city. I'm not saying that'll never turn around, but it will take much, much more than golf to make it happen.

I'm a believer in that, and that the area will continue to grow as a destination. They still lack a single major development to jumpstart things though. If not for Disney World, MCO wouldn't be half of what it is today. MYR doesn't have a Disney World, is what I'm getting at.

The sad part is that South Carolina doesn't market MYR as a year round destination. There is a lot to do there all year round. My FB page has hundreds of photo's from Brookgreen, the Beach, GGE, and such.

My favourite time to go is off season. Two weeks ago while there it was so nice. No tourists, and amazing locally caught shrimp!

So very true! My partner & I live in Upstate S. Carolina and love to go to MB in the cooler, off-season months! Temps are crisp - we love to bundle up and beachcomb (TONS of sea shells), plus you can take your dog along without restrictions like during "high season".

Huntington Beach State Park allows pets from the start of the Jetty Beach, south. I have gotten some amazing shells and pictures at the beach.

The whole area south of MYR is almost "unspoiled" by tourism. LOVE IT!
