Gecas Finalizes 737 Order

Wed Oct 03, 2012 2:41 pm

According to a Boeing press release and ATWOnline Boeing has finalized an order for up to 100 737 that was announced at this years Farnbourough airshow.

This is good news for Boeing and the 737 line. Most will be for the MAX (75) and some will be NG (10). The rest is an option for more -800NG.

With Boeing and Airbus enjoying good sales, this might be good news for the 160Seat CSeries as well, since the other two now are sold out for a long time!

799, in fact.

So about 35% of the market to date (A320neo orders are at 1456).

According to the Boeing press release its 821 now:

Quote:
To date, 821 737 MAX airplanes have been ordered.

I think theres a miscalculation because the previous release lists 724 and with this order added I get 799.

Boeing could have another 22 frame order that has not yet been made public. We'll know tomorrow when Boeing updates their Orders and Deliveries spreadsheet.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't this be about 35.4% of the market share. If it is then the MAX is still far behind the NEO.

Yes it is. I was dividing 799 into 1456, not 2255.

And yes, the MAX is trailing the A320neo by a fair bit. Boeing claims they have 1200 orders and commitments compared to the 1611 orders and MoUs the A320 has, so that shrinks the gap a bit. The A320neo has also been on sale for an additional 231 days, giving Airbus an average of 2.17 firm orders per day compared to 1.81 for Boeing per http://www.pdxlight.com/neomax.htm.

One would expect that the earlier availability by 18 - 24 months would be a (much) bigger factor in the difference. Taking that into consideration, the 737 MAX seems to be doing pretty well against the "superior" NEO offering.

The number is 821 firm as reported by Seattle Times...

http://seattletimes.com/html/busines...ology/2019330162_boeingmaxxml.html

"Aircraft lessor GECAS ordered 75 Boeing 737 MAXs and an unidentified customer added 22 more, bringing the firm order tally to 821."
