Iberia A340s At LHR

Thu Oct 04, 2012 5:18 am

Hello all

I know this has been discussed before but I'm looking for some more updated information.

I will be flying MAD-LHR on 14 October and will be seeking to get on the A340 that operates this route....I understand it is usually on flight IB3166 departing MAD at 1600 and arriving at LHR around 1720. However looking at this in my computer at work it is currently showing that flight is an A321.

Does anyone know if equipment substitutions on this route are common, or which Iberia flight I should shoot for to get the best shot at the A340?

Thanks for any help-
Brian

Hi Brian....The IB3166 14 Oct is showing as an A346 in Galileo, so you should be just fine.

IBE3166 on the 14Oct departing MAD 16.00 and arriving LHR 17.20 is showing A340.600 equipment on amadeus.
From my knowledge Iberia operates 1 A340 flight daily except Saturday into LHR, on either the IBE3166/IBE3180 from MAD.

They do change the equipment at short notice a lot - this causes a lot of issues for the cargo.

If you want a ratio - its about 1 in 10, so with luck you'll get the 340 either a -300 or a -600!

Good luck

Thanks to all for the help - going to go for it! (Even if all else fails I still haven't flown IB yet so I'll be able to give them a try).

I was wondering if it will be the -300 or the -600 also, as I'm on the exact same flight!

See you onboard!

Sounds good....although it looks like I may be changing my travel plans to MAD-LHR on the 10th instead (will be returning to the US on the 14th). Hoping I'll still get lucky with a widebody on the route (else I'll be taking the BA 767 later that evening)!

Out of interest, it was identified as A340 tonight when I saw it on flight radar.

I'm also on this flight on 12th October just to fly on the A340. A bit of research over the past few weeks shows that the A340 is used on five days a week with Wednesday and Saturday being an A321 operation.

Last few Fridays has been an A340 600.....so hoping for this next week, but after working in airport ops for 30+ years I know only too well that anything can happen on the day to change things!! Still I get a night in Madrid whatever the outcome.

Hope you guys get a ride on the A340 as well.

I took this flight last month on the A346. Always nice to ride this bird but the flight was pretty awful. It was 100% full and 1 hour late and service only reached the rear cabin 20 minutes before landing! The KU A340 I flew the next day from GVA-LHR was worse though (but both were good experiences and new airlines to tick off my list).

Sorry if this is a foolish question, but why does IB operate the A340 on this route? Cargo?

Well, looks like my hopes have been dashed as I'll be flying it on a Wednesday now :P BA 763 it is.

Considering it's a connection between hubs of IAG's airlines, I'd assume it would be a mix of connecting cargo and passengers to the other airline.
The 747 will always be the TRUE queen of the skies!

It is run for Cargo, the Belly space is used as a direct transshipment from S. America to the LHR cargo hub. The timming is also influenced for the DHL freighter than runs onto BRU.

The airrcaft is also used by a lot of staff passengers, BA, IB and (IAG) staff shutle back and forth.

Long may it last as it provides a nice change from the IB Narrowbodies that used to fly this route. Good luck for the chaps booking on the flight.
