Salmon-Thirty-Salmon II Revealed

Fri Oct 05, 2012 3:00 am

For those that have Facebook accounts, Salmon-Thirty-Salmon II has been revealed on N559AS at ANC. There is a YouTube video on Alaska Airlines' FB page showing the development of N559AS. Enjoy!!!

Pretty! I don't think I ever saw the old one, even after multiple trips to SEA, so hopefully I'll see this one someday.

Fun fact for me... My fraternity brother's father is the captain on the unveiling of the new Salmon-Thirty-Salmon. Oh the things Facebook will show you...

Looks good. Does anybody have an insight on what flights this plane will be flying the next few days?
Two rules in aviation, don't hit anything and don't run out of gas, cause if you run out of gas yer gonna hit something.

Looks like it is scheduled for ANC-SEA-SJC-SEA-ORD today with an ORD RON.

We are having a piece of wild Alaska king salmon tonight for dinner on the BBQ! Now I know why I bought it today. The best fish in the world comes from Alaska - really! Thanks for sharing.

I love the 'salmon' color they used on the titles. Makes the whole thin really pop just with that alone. Overall nice job done by everyone involved (e.g AS, and contractors). Picks up right where Salmon Thirty Salmon I - left off.

If there any design changes to this plane (other than the winglets, which obviously weren't on the 734) versus the original Salmon Thirty Salmon?

I am not very familiar with painting techniques used on aircraft. Can someone elaborate on how exactly the process can create blending of colors and some of the fading spots on the fish? This is a general question for all liveries/ac. I am familiar with how basic schemes are done, but not the complex ones.

Thanks!

So thats what a salmon looks like!!!
I'm used to seeing them smoked or poached or grilled. Preferrably at 35,000 feet.

The paint process is basically the same for all liveries...the difference between the complex ones and the simple ones is how many colours and layers of masks you need. Regardless of the masks, it's all sprayed on by hand. As a result, for the blends and fades they just don't use a mask and spray it by hand. The same technique is used, for example, on the light blue "blush" on the latest Boeing house livery.

Aircraft painters are really really good.

Other than the change of the color of the titles, I do not see any other differences.
