Could it be a type-rated pilot is re qualifying in a plane rather than sim?

It looks like Google's N1757 from the pictures here in A.net. Mather is a great place for flight training with that long ex-B52 runway.

Yes sounds like someone is getting type rated on the 757. They might have hired a new commercial licensed pilot but isn't type rated for the 757 yet. They usually do several touch and goes (forgot if there is a magic number or not) to get the rating. That Buffalo Airways TV show, Bruce Dickenson singer of Iron Maiden gets himself type rated on a DC-4.

I thought airline pilots got type ratings all the time without flying the real thing, didn't Fedex only let the instructors fly the 777 when they first got it?

I'm going to bring a little bit of the crazy here...

Could it be Google X testing something? Obviously there are no outward modifications to the plane, but perhaps something far less obvious. This is the group that is working on the autonomous car and the Google Glasses, which is basically like a HMD but on glasses. Maybe they've turned their attention to something aviation related...
Why do Aerospace Engineering students have to turn things in on time?
