This will be AWESOME. Great, great things for OneWorld and Chicago. There really needs to be a OW carrier that can provide service between Chicago and some of the emerging/developing markets across SE Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Great news for ORD! Hopefully strengthens the O.W. ops at ORD. Maybe if AA sticks around we can see some good connections there....if they're still around

Its a big if. If AA and QR can develop a very tight relationship, than DFW would be an excellent canidate for service. If QR is just another OW member to AA, QR wont darken the door of DFW.

Again, we still dont know 100% if QR is joining OW. Im holding my optimism until Monday.

Well, and there is the whole EK wrench to throw into this situation. Granted, the details are sketchy surrounding what plans exactly EK has for AA (and frankly what AA has for itself even in the future) but my best guess would be that even if Qatar enters OneWorld, DFW service isn't super high priority right now. QRs relationship with OW has more to do with IAG/Willie Walsh than AA.

ORD will actually be the first city to go live in QR's US network after a four year period of dormancy, which kind of says a lot.

I might have missed something here but Al Baker said on 1st October 2012 as reported on Reuters it's all rumours and not true that QR will join Oneworld.

Maybe it's already old news but it's the latest one I have found.

I don´t think we will see DFW soon in the network, I think they can open more interesting markets before Dallas.

After opening O´hare they will have endless connectivity to the USA and Canada. LAX, SFO or Even MIA could be a good hit for QR as well, but we will see, i´m sure we will see some of them as soon as B787 start flowing fast out of the factory. Or even Sydney could come soon.

A second daily to MAD could be also good, because right now I think they are doing really good and codesharing with IB to south america and central America can be a win-win situation for both, EK already serves MAD 2xday. we could see a B787 on the route because with 1 plane they can serve it daily.

Even some more Canada places, canadian government permitting, difficult but maybe... who knows....

After ORD, what are the chances of an West-Coast city? LAX or SFO?

Quoting migair54 (Reply 8):

This is not possible, QR only have the rights for a two major cities in Australia (they can offer services to ADL, CBR, DRW, CNS or NTL but no more major centres). Until the Bilateral is re negotiated there is no chance of more Australian services.

With AAB who knows what will happen, the man certainly creates interest...

I didn´t know this bilateral, any limit in frequencies in the two existing cities?? ADL could be a nice addition to the network it´s not Sydney or Brisbane but i´m sure they can do well.

Besides they already serve Houston, which is a quick flight for Dallasites, Fort Worthians, Metroplexans, and other Texans.

If interesting markets are what it's about, airlines would only fly to NYC, LA, Vegas, SFO, Chicago, DC, and Florida. Yet other uninteresting places like Dallas or Houston make airlines tons of money.

Quoting BC77008 (Reply 11):

It depends who's school of thought you follow. EK started DFW despite being in Houston already. On the other hand KE never showed up in Houston all those years of CO being in Skyteam favoring DFW instead. So for some carriers, it works well for them to serve more than one city in a region but for others it doesn't.

My position is QR showing up in OW would not be enough to warrant service to DFW. Instead it depends on how closely QR and AA decide to work together. If QR is just another OW member along the lines of RJ, then DFw can forget about QR service. If AA and QR do something along the lines of EK and QF, then it's plausible. Personally I hope AA links with EK instead because they are already here.

Actually QR started service to IAH within the last 4 years.

I'm quite surprised that QR beat EK to ORD. I always thought EK would fly to ORD, and I'm quite surprised they still don't. None the less, very exciting news for ORD. Any idea on flight times?

By the time QR lands in Chicago on 4/13/13, it will have been four years since they started IAH (3/30/09).

It is somewhat surprising. But, there are definitely a few pieces of lower hanging fruit for EK before ORD. Noticeably, they went after DFW, SEA, IAD, and also launched a few new Latin America routes (EZE and GIG). ORD is actually already heavily served by OW partner AA+BA over LHR, UA+LH at FRA, DL+AF+KL at AMS/CDG among others, and further down the corridor, EY to AUH, TK to IST, RJ to AMM, and so on and on. Lots of competition.

I would reckon CX does a much better job in connecting ORD with SE Asia.

That said, it shed more light on the possibility of QR joining OW, which we would know the answer today.

Who will be doing the ground handling for QR at ORD? I'm assuming SwissPort...

With QR now going to OW, it very could well be AA and departing from T3.

Its a little early to tell, they havent even posted their own positions yet, so I would assume the RFP hasnt gone out yet. Although if Swissport handles their other US stations, its a good chance.

jcwr56, I know one of the main reasons more STAR partners dont depart from T1 is due to gate restrictions, and due to UA not wanting to perform handling of other airlines..

Is this not the case with AA? They only handle JL and IB in T3. BA talks about moving to T3, but it hasnt occured. (Then again they have their own union staff and quite alot of investment in their T5 lounges.) No other OneWorld partners have moved over to my knowledge..

No one knows how deep the involvement the relationship will be between AA and QR, the same with AA and AB. QR's departure is around 2130 and at that time of the night, K19 could be available for a 773. That's why I threw out there T3 is a possibility.

The same with AB, their 1535ish departure and operating a 330 gives AA more flexibility to gate them on their side. With IB going to a 330 as well next summer, L8 and L10 make good candidate's for a mini OW terminal.

I'm sure the the city's position would be, operate from T5 but we haven't heard anything official yet.

I know UA is not thrilled with the idea of airlines operating in T1 that are not being ground handled by UA, unless they use their own hired staff..

Is AA the same way? Could Swissport or another handle these airlines out of T3?
