Chautauqua (RP) Expanding DL Partnership

Wed Oct 10, 2012 2:41 pm

Just came across some information that looks like RP is not going anywhere for a little while. Starting December 21st, RP will fly the 44-seat ERJ-140 out of DTW to AZO, LAN, PLN, SDF, TVC, and YOW (TVC on the 22nd and LAN on the 23rd). Obviously since this info is not really out yet, can't say where I got if from but I thought this was interesting nonetheless. Anyone else heard about this or know more?

Well, it would make some sense to have some "smaller" lift to these cities. I imagine we'd see some in MN as well...

But until I see it on DLNet or from RAH I'm not going to believe it. Sorry...

I thought the E140s were only used for AA out of ORD... I wasn't aware that they had anymore.

At some point they'll realize getting out of the prop business probably wasn't the smartest thing considering a lot of these short haul routes from DTW.

Somehow, I don't think that FWA will see them with the 9E MX base here, even though it's also a very short hop between FWA and DTW. Almost all the DL flying at FWA is 9E, with some EV thrown in at times, and 9E RONs 3 (IIRC) CR2s at FWA for MX and would like to work on more.

Granted, with Chapter 11 for 9E, there will be changes, but at last check, 9E is committed to keeping the FWA MX base open. In fact, 9E is partnering with Ivy Tech Community College to hire mechanics from their SMD (Smith Field) MX school. Which means that if 9E gets a share of the new 76-seat DCI flying (and I think they will get at least part of it with DL at the helm of the creditors), a lot of those planes will end up at FWA.

FWA-DTW was flown by a mix of turboprops and jets for years. Toward the end of the XJ SAAB fleet's service at FWA, one or two of the five daily FWA-DTW flights was on a SAAB (usually the lower-volume flights), with the other 3 or 4 flights on 9E CR2s. FWA-MSP has always been operated on a CR2, and FWA-ATL has used CR2s ever since DL mainline was discontinued at FWA (though the CR7 was used briefly when it first entered the DCI system).

In an ideal world, the Q400 or the AT7 would be the perfect planes for routes like FWA-DTW. If Colgan were still around and if DL didn't have propophobia, we could have seen Pinnacle/Colgan add the Q400 to the DL Connection fleet and add a Q400 MX line at FWA.

Most likely, RP is cutting back on ERD flying for AA with the addition of OO and EV to the Eagle network.

RP flies to LAN right now. The 6am departure today was a RP plane, no need to wait til December.

Was it an ERJ-145 or an ERJ-140? RP flies the ER4 for DL right now.

The RP/AA contract for 15 ERDs runs out in February and it seems AA is not going to be extending it. It will be interesting to see how many ERDs DL wants to take and for how long. I don't like the fact that DL is coding these planes as ER4s. Don't know why they couldn't just use ERD to avoid confusion.

I agree but I think that this is "Delta's thing" to differentiate itself from the competition. Sorta how OH marketed jet service with the introduction of the CRJ, except no props whatsoever.

I didn't see FWA on the schedule, maybe I missed it.

I was wondering myself how many will actually make it over. It will be very interesting to see how many small RJs stay with DL. I see this as more CRJs or ERJs exiting the fleet that expected to stay below the new pilot contract cap.

Is this the "narrowbody" fleet addition in December that FlyASAguy eluded to the other day in a different thread?

True...but we've seen how well RJ operations have been doing lately.

I just see Alaska/Horizon going to crazy out west with the Q400s and just wish someone would take that model back east into the Midwest.

I guess the price must've been right. I'm sure DL has no problem with 50/44 seaters... just expensive 50/44 seaters. What are RP's costs like? I'm guessing they'd be pretty low. DL just dumped a bunch of 50 seat flying, planning on dumping more. Can't see why they'd add 44 seaters unless they got a good deal or something
Ironically I have never flown a Delta MD-90 :)

I'll take an E-jet of ANY size over an CRJ (not CR7 or CR9) any day of the week.
Finally made it to an airline mecca!

Looking at weekdays in January, I was able to find the 44 seaters.

Schedule shows a ERJ-145 however seat maps show 44 seaters.

I'm trying to find the post where someone asked if these planes would be going to FWA, or whether 9E was going to its FWA maintenance base open, but alas, I can't find it. It's almost as if the world revolves around FWA, and the world never noticed it.

You mean it doesn't?   Someone is just supportive of their hometown, nothing wrong with that. Though it does get annoying when it is done in spite of other communities.

That would be nice, and it would be even better if they were operated by Horizon. But I digress.

It'll be nice to see some Delta ERJ's in the area again though.

Actually, the PWA with the pilots allows for exactly this operation as it's own cutout. (9 E140's operated by RP or S5). They knew it was coming.
