First Commercial Service A380 China Southern To LA

Fri Oct 12, 2012 2:42 pm

Hi everybody!

According to flightradar24, flight CZ 327 is overflying the neighborhoods of Shangai at this time. Speed 563 knots, FL 311 (aprox. 9500 m, remember China airspace is in meters, not feet). In 11 hours more it will be landing at LAX.

¿How do you think this new aircraft will operate from LAX? ¿Is there too much offer? Greetings!

Their current 777 operation isn't that full, just recently got up to daily service, and CAN is poisonous to US carriers apparently. Good luck!

there is a lot of naysaying here about China Southern upgrading LAX to A380, that's all

When China Southern ordered those A380s, one of the routes they had in mine was LAX

this route should do fine with the A380, just give it time

NW/DL has never made it work, UA stopped trying, even many EU carriers have reduced or dropped CAN.

CAN is just too close to HKG. But the CZ changed a lot recent years and they are aggressively promoting their 380 routes, especially CAN-LAX. The service quality is really good on their 380! I hope they can work because they are actually far better than CA or MU considering the service. Just take a look at some trip reports on their 380 on A-net like this:

Considering their LAX flight has operated year to date with mere 48.2% LF using a 777-200, the A380 is a needless flood of capacity on the route.

CZ is flooding the market with cheap fares out of LAX. You can connect to SYD, DPS, PKT, for hundreds less than on other other airlines. I am with you , they might fill the plane but at horrible yields.

You're probably right. But I hope they keep it just the same. It's a good opportunity to work the type, since China Southern is one of ours at that station.

The flight would do better if the not needing a transit visa went smoother. All 3 people I know that transited via China in the past 2 years have had a horrible time getting from one flight to the next (delayed by police, hassled as to why they didn't have a visa). I know 3 is not many, but when hearing this and knowing the ease of transiting other Asian airports; you look elsewhere.

Actually there is a 24 hours transit without visa arrangement in China's 3 main airports (PEK,PVG,CAN). But the passengers still need to pass the passport check due to the design of the airport (the departure flow and arrival flow is seperated in different floors). And the police is always in lack of efficiency...For example, check this:

My 3 firends and I know that. Immigration and police at the airports don't seem to know/follow that rule. That's the problem.

Well, in my point of view, here is the best video which shows the work of landing gear cushions absorbing the impact of touchdown.

At this time, this A380 if flying back to CAN, about 160 miles west of Anadyr (DYR) Russia. Meanwhile, today evening arrval A380 is overflying Pudong airport.

Time of this post, 14:42 Z

In advance of introducing the A380 CAN-LAX-CAN, CZ had economy promo fares of USD $700.00 r/t. Domestic connections ex-CAN....free!!!

I check the system and the load factor is pretty good at least in first 3 days.
