UA Upgauges IAH-FRA

Sat Oct 13, 2012 2:20 pm

It does look as if the capcity reductions at IAH are reversing bit by bit. United will upgauge IAH-FRA from a sCO 764 to a sCO 777 starting on March 2013.

Wonder where the 764 will go? MAN-EWR has been itching for one for a while now. Loads could certainly sustain it, and yields are high too.

It's hard to say. UA is moving aircraft for S13 and has announced several routes switching to a 764. Take your pick... ORD-MUC, IAD-MUC/FCO/ZRH

Okay so this identifies where the 777 currently operating IAH-LOS will be going, it's being replaced by the 787. There are still a few sUA777s that are being replaced by 787s on LAX-NRT and LAX-PVG that will be going somewhere.

Interesting that in the schedule posted, there's only a 15-minute window between the arrival and departure times at IAH. I doubt if UA will have the plane sit at IAH for 24h15m between flights. Does this mean an additional sUA 772 flight somewhere? The flight times don't seem to match up well to fund the IAH-HNL flight that's moving to the same type as well.

It's an sCO 777, not a 3 class sUA 777.

Maybe the long rumored IAH-MUC?

With LH A388, there will be 794 daily available seats from IAH to FRA. Is the demand that great?

The connections over FRA are massive. UA feeds a tremendous amount of pax's through there. I've worked the 744/772s into and out of FRA where the majority of pax's are connecting.

More likely from IAH-LHR. The route is switching from sCO 777s to 763s but it is going triple daily instead of twice daily.

I wish UA and LH would switch flight times. Hopefully now with Pier A+ open at FRA it's easier to transfer on the LH flight to IAH rather than having to schlep all the way to C!

I take it the upgauge is planned daily for the summer schedule and not beyond?

Hopefully the 777 will stick. I've had a few flights from IAH-FRA that were booked on 777s and were both changed later to the 764.

IAH-MUC would be a great route. The time might be right...

In a press release Lufthansa says that the addition of the new pier gives LH the opportunity to shift all US departures to
concourse A.

Well I am not sure about all that demand in between iah-fra but with great connections on both sides I'm sure it isnt that difficult to fill up the plane.

Still there's plenty of available 777s

IAH-LOS 777 replaced by 787
IAH-LHR 2x 777 replaced by 3x 763
LAX-PVG 777 replaced by 787
LAX-NRT 777 replaced by 787

So subtract one 777 for the aforementioned IAH-FRA flight, and subtract another for SFO-HND (which UA should get) and that still leaves 2 sCO 777s and 1 sUA 777 unaccounted for in the current schedules.

I believe this flight is the longest 767-400ER route currently in service at 4546 nm. Is the plane not well suited for flights of this length? According to Boeing, it should be able to to 5,625 nm.

I was on the IAH-FRA leg in March and really enjoyed the 764.

Per company info all B-767-424's will be moved from IAH to EWR and IAD, being replaced by sUA B-767-322's and B-777's of both subsidiaries by the end of the first quarter 2013. EZE, GRU, AMS already announced on the 300's, GIG on the sCO 777.

Of course not. Either it is a typo or if it a UA 777, the aircraft would probably continue on to a UA 777 base.
