Passengers Evacuated From Smoke Filled Jet At GLA

Fri Oct 19, 2012 7:52 am

Does anyone have any more info? Airline? a/c etc, seems like this must be happening right about now as Sky News has not further info at the moment.

Boeing 737-800. Sounds like it was a rejected take-off.

Sky News has just updated their info to state it was a Jet2 737-800 GLA-ALC with 187 pax on board. Fingers crossed that no on is hurt or seriously affected, hoping we may get some pictures soon.

There are some photos on the BBC News website report: -

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-20001291

The report states that it was flight LS177 and that 4 pax were injured in the evacuation following reports of smoke in the cabin prior to takeoff.

It's not been a great 24 hours for LS after yesterday's LS809 MAN-AGP diverted to LBA shortly after take-off - I don't know what the issue was there because I only followed it on flightradar24 but the flight eventually continued from LBA on a different a/c

We had a Jet2 last Saturday make an emergency landing here at FAO. I think it was the TFS MAN flight. It had come from Tenerife for sure. They even closed the road at the end of the runway. Flap problem I believe.

Yes not a great time for Jet2 the last week or so. Sounds like take-off was aborted once the smoke was spotted, thankfully.

Good job by the crew, only 4 injured so assuming that was during evacuation.

This link from Sky News has a good shot - I didn't know they branded some a/c jet2holidays either! looks like it caused quite a fuss.

Yes, there's a couple including G-LSAM, a B752 - it's quite a nice livery IMO

BBC reporting "Alison Pedley, from Stourport on Severn, said stewards "yelled" at passengers "to leave all bags and just jump". Watching the video however, I see a woman in blue/turquoise top with a bag or coat! I wonder how many others still stopped to pick up their belongings.

.....Yelled at them. How rude. Could they not say 'please'?

Also interesting to see the lights in the chute - at the bottom. Didn't know they had them.

I do hope you're joking. There are times for politeness and evacuating a smoke-filled aircraft isn't one of them. If it's correct that people were collecting belongings the cabin crew obviously weren't yelling loudly enough.

Yes....yes...yes.... don't worry!   I actually wear trainers when aboard, and keep them on - and that isn't a joke!

One thing I always keep on my person is my passport when flying. Should we need to exit through non-standard means, I've at least got that on me.
