AB A332 Parked At SFO 5 Days Now Awaiting Engine?

Mon Oct 22, 2012 10:59 pm

Just wondering if anyone has any details on this one. Apparently its been parked at super bay since last Thursday. AB last scheduled flight for seasonal service to SFO was last Friday. Source at ground staff says its awaiting an engine. Anyone confirm?

Thanks

Maybe the crew wasn't to happy they were done with SFO for the season, so took it in their own hands to get more out of the layover

Seriously though, if I remember, I'll make some phone calls from work.

I noticed that tail over by the super bay yesterday and I wondered what it was doing there...

Maybe Air Berlin can't afford another engine!

And since they liked it, now they want to stay for the first two games of the WS. So no departure until Friday.

Assuming that you can cough up the dough, how long would it typically take to have a replacement engine ordered/leased, shipped and put on the wing? Would five days and counting still be within the norm?

getting an engine depends on pre-planning. having established relationships with local airlines for facilities and possibly manpower . The LCC go it alone mantra is NOT going to work 5000+ miles from home shipping engines can become a pricey matter. At UAL is has at times been cheaper to 3 engine Ferry a 747-422 from Asia (HKG) to SFO for an engine change. spending $166K but saving as the shipping would be over $220K not including manpower and tooling.
