Openskies Returns To JFK

From 31st of March 2013 OpenSkies will operate a 1 X Daily ORY-JFK.

It cant be making money for them surely ?

IAG have been quick to shelve Openskies routes from Amsterdam and to Washington which weren't making money so presumably there is a good expectation of profits. I have seen adverts for first officers for openskies recently , so again if they are taking on extra pilots they must be expecting decent returns.

Considering that AF dropped their LHR-LAX route when the openskies agreement first came about BA seems to have made it work with this venture

Yet, I believe AF used one of their standard 772s for LHR-LAX while EU utilizes a more premium-based 752 and flies out of ORY rather than CDG.

How many A/c does Openskies have? I thought they only had one which they used for EWR

I thought they had 4 - 2 ex L'Avion (PW powered) and 2 ex BA (RR powered)

According to Wikipedia they have a fleet of three 757s, and only one was transfered from BA so that would be only one RR powered one then and the others would be PW

You are wrong, but only slightly. They actually only have three aircraft now. F-GPEJ went to EC-Air as HB-JJB in April and is currently operated by Privatair.



And to be honest, the plane looks better in EC Air colors than the British Airways/Openskies colorscheme (if that's possible).

IAG is not known for its sentimentality and can be pretty ruthless so if OpenSkies is expanding then they must see some potential in it. I think it at least helps raise the profile of BA and AA in the Paris market.

Is this one leased out or sold? I wouldn't rule out it being acquired back as three aircraft for three year round daily rotations clearly isn't an option.

They also do quite a large amount of adhoc charter work.

Ah thanks for clarifying VV701.

They will still almost certainly need four 757s again for the new schedule as even now with two daily rotations flight24 shows all three aircraft to be quite busy as it is.

Looking at T100 I'd say it averages about 62% full which is awful. DEC-APR 2012 load factors were all in the 40s and 50s.

Loads must have been much higher than 60%, they wouldn't be launching a thrid daily rotation otherwise.

The DEC-APR figures were before the re-launch as a three class airline (again).
