Air Do: New Name, New Livery

Sun Oct 28, 2012 8:18 pm

Hey A.Netters,

I was looking through the photo database and noticed that Air Do has not only changed their livery, but also acquired a new plane through ANA. I tried to do some research and discovered they have dropped the Hokkaido International Airlines from their name, and deepened their links with ANA. I was wondering if anyone know what all these new changes mean for the airline? Will the be retiring their 737-5's for the -7's, or are the -7's for growth? My guess is with all the new LCC competition arriving in Japan, the smaller airlines like Air Do are gonna have to change to keep from losing traffic.

I don't hate it, but it is very bland. I personally like their liveries that have their bear mascots on them. I wish they could have found a way to incorporate that more.

It is a bland name, but it's short for Hokkaido. Do, or 道, means circuit, which is what Hokkaido is labeled as part of the 47 prefectures. (The other differences from Prefecture are "To," metropolis, in Tokyo-to, and Fu, in Osaka-fu and Kyoto-fu)

IIRC it's a majority-owned LCC operating under NH's systems.

Yeah its just everything from the really light shade of blue to using that lowsy tilted black font is horrible.

Perhaps they should move to KIX then and become Air Fu

You know what, I've heard of a guy wanting to start something like that, have something at KIX or ITM and at Kyoto, and have that name, Air Fu, as a LCC. Heck it's a better business model than Peach Air

Well Tokyo is quite the metropolis- it's governed similar to how DC is governed here except it means a hell of a lot more and gets a lot of representation in government than DC.

Osaka and Kyoto are very large and important cities so their FU designation gives them a lot of priority too.

If I had to fly on that 737 pictured with that identity and livery...I would have sweaty palms the whole way

It is truly disgusting.

The should go to Landor to get something as great as S7! (In my biased opinion)
