FedEx has announced it plans to open a new international express and cargo hub at Shanghai Pudong Airport.
The planned new $100mil facility to be complete by 2017 and allow FedEx to triple its volume at the airport.
The FedEx move follows both DHL and UPS which themselves have invested in making Pudong regional hubs.
FedEx also stated earlier this month it was seeking approval from Chinese authorities for a full license to provide domestic express-package services. Currently FX provides more limited domestic service through joint ventures with local logistics companies.
I wonder what this does for the current intra-Asia Pacific hub at Guangzhou?
The other FedEx hubs in the region are; North Pacific - Kansai(opens early 2014), South Pacific - Singapore. Hong Kong also serves as the carriers regional HQ.
