They have 3 of them right now D-ABYA, D-ABYC, D-ABYD. Not sure when D-ABYE or the future ones will be delivered. (The registration # D-ABYB wont be used)

Yes there will be a second rotation on FRA-LAX

I still say Lufthansa will be flying the A380 on FRA-LAX by 2014. And I'd bet the farm (if I had a farm)

Yes there will be a second rotation on FRA-LAX

So from LH next summer we will have:

MUC: daily A346
FRA: daily 748i and daily 744

That is quite some capacity!

They have 4 of them now. D-ABYF (cn 37830) was delivered on October 23 and will enter service in a couple of weeks. The next one (D-ABYG / cn 37831) is scheduled for delivery in January 2013.

Did I not read something within the last month or two that LH was going to bring the 748i to LAX sometime next year around summer time. Correct me if I'm wrong.

So one 748 flies into Washington, two to Los Angeles and one to Delhi, is that right?

apparently frame nrs 4 and/or 5 will have a different layout with a slightly smaller C-cabin. I booked a flight yesterday for jan on LH456/LH457 and got window seats for both legs in row 16 (Y) meaning probably that they will have two rows less (-12 seats) in C.

maybe this is a quick change layout which they install during holiday seasons (xmas, summer)?

The two flights to India are so short that they should be able to service all four destinations daily with just four planes. Two planes could, e.g., do DEL and LAX:

FRA-LAX 10:00-12:40
LAX-FRA 14:50-10:45+1
FRA-DEL 13:30-01:15+1
DEL-FRA 03:00-07:00

Very cool. I am on one FRA-IAD on Nov 25th but since I booked it on UA, I can't chose seats which worries me because I could end up getting stuck in a middle seat. Hopefully my UA Gold will make it possible to get a Window seat.

Cool, thanks for that. Also three hours between the two Los Angeles and New Delhi could be more than enough to reduce chances of delays.

Can LH please do something about the lifevests in Y on the 748i? Or will they? The 748i's overhead bins are hulkingly massive, but the underseat life vests take away any space to store a moderately packed computer bag and therefore any sort of legroom. Those life vests, combined with a 31'' pitch and generous recline in front makes this the most cramped Y I've experienced. I'm average height and of scrawny weight too. A real shame, because painful knees negate all of the aircraft's great features. I don't have this problem on the 343 and 333.

By regulation, life vests must be placed within immediate reach of a passenger. They cannot go into the overhead bin, as this greatly reduces the chance that they'll be accessible after a watery crash.
But maybe it's like the Darwin Award; if YOU would rather have your overstuffed laptop bag near you, in lieu of lifesaving equipment, it could just be natural selection at its finest...

Perhaps you just got a bad seat? My recent flight on the 748 was awesome! I'm relatively short (5'6"), but felt that the 748 gives the impression of at least an inch extra leg room compared to the 744. I was on seat 27A.

Plenty of leg room.

Another leg room shot.

I was ticketed for 41H but switched with the pax in the window seat, so I think I sat in 41J.

My bag was packed lighter than usual, but this comment cracked me up. Well stated, sir.

Let this serve as a warning to LAX pax to pack their laptop bags a little lighter.

You absolutely can choose a seat. Get your Lufthansa confirmation code from united.com, then go to lufthansa.com to select your seat.

Looks like LH updated its schedule a bit over the weekend.

The 748 now appears to be the default aircraft operating FRA-LAX permanently into the future.

Also previously mentioned a 2nd FRA-LAX which operates on the 744, was adjusted slightly and now will run May 23 - October 12, 2013.

Don't bet on it. LH allows their own Star Alliance Gold card holders (LH Senator and LH HON Circle status) to select exit row seats in advance, and many do. On your flight, 21B and 21C are occupied, 22A, 22K and 21H and 21J are still empty-but-restricted for the time being.

Whatever's left is made available to the public when online check-in opens 23 hours prior to departure, and they usually disappear very quickly once that happens.

The only likely scenario in which you can bag an exit row seat at the airport is if one of the aforementioned Senators or HONs gets upgraded to Business because the flight is overbooked.

My advice: check in online (at Lufthansa.com) right on the 23-hour mark, you might get lucky. Don't leave it until the airport.
Public service announcement: "It's" = "it is". To indicate posession, write "its." Looks wrong, but it's correct grammar

Thanks for the heads up. I am kinda used to being able to book Exit row on UA before-hand thus I am kinda spoilt so I'll have to scramble to get it on LH. I am also a little worried being that my layover in FRA is only an hour after my in-bound from MUC thus cannot afford the MUC flight to be delayed and from what I remember last time I was in FRA, the domestic terminal isn't near the international one thus I might be pushing it. It'd be a bummer if I miss the connection because I paid considerably more to fly the 748 and if I miss the connection they'll probably put me on the 744 to SFO or UA 901 to SFO. I might try to get on an earlier flight from MUC instead.

Cheers

They've opened a new concourse at FRA (called A-Plus) which has made things a little better. Should be OK, barring any major delays.

It can't hurt to ask at the airport, but be prepared for LH to say no. They're not very keen on people changing flights without paying dearly for flexibility.

This is the reason why I fly the devil that I know, UA. A good example is last week on an EWR-LHR-DUB my inbound to EWR came in early that I was able to request the direct EWR-DUB and avoid LHR all-together which was $700 more when booking but they let me have it anyways. Anyways, I am excited about flying LH for only the 2nd time in 10 years. I saw their A380 at SFO on Wednesday and it looked sweet!

Flying ont he 748 was an awesome experience two days ago, Thanks for the help with trying to get an Exit row seat which I wasn't successful with but still enjoyed the flight tremendously. The wing-flex was ridiculous and I loved their AVOD (not that i used it much). Passport control at FRA was also very easy to go through having flown in from MUC, took about 10 minutes total from my arriving gate to my departure gate. Now I cannot wait to fly their J-class hopefully soon.

Yeah, it was only my 2nd time flying LH in about 10 years and it was well worth it, good to know they're sending it to LAX although I avoid LAX like the plague! More importantly, I enjoyed Germany for a week, great country minus the weather

Enjoy the flight.
