Looks photoshopped for some reason! Though I know it isn't really... weird!

Boeing put out a document about its history in China.

Pretty interesting that Bill Boeing way back in 1920s hired a Chinese engineer Wong Tsoo to help design aircraft. Mr Wong later returned to China and played other important rolls in early Chinese aviation.

The rekindling of relations came with Richard Nixon's historic visit in 1972, which opened the door to relations with the CAAC and then monumental order for 10 Boeing 707s.

Today, some 6,000 Boeing aircraft fly the world with parts and assemblies built in China.

Here is a close up for the faces

I'm glad they did a special paint scheme as I feel their livery is so intimidating for some reason.

Every time I see Air China in Paris or Los Angeles, I just get a weird vibe from them. I don't know why and I can't really explain it.

Bon Voyage,

Fair enough except the Comic Sans.

Seriously, there needs to be an international treaty banning that font.

Very cool...whose faces are depicted in the livery?

I don't think that is Comic Sans. It surely some other kind of "handwritten" font, but it is much, much better than Comic Sans. I think MU used Comic Sans on its Expo 2010 A346 (which I call the "Haibao Jet").

I think it is very interesting that you get a "weird vibe" when you see the CA livery. When I see the CA livery, I always feel a strange sense of comfort. I love CA's regular livery.

Does anyone else have any unusual feelings when you see a particular livery?

It's kind of modification of the old Aeroflot livery. If you don't like USSR, maybe...

Unfortunately the basic Air China livery is a rather gloomy one that reminds me of a dark totalitarian place, not the more vibrant nation and company CA has become.

Still considered a third world Country, even by the locals. CA's domestic flights are tolerable but I stopped flying them long haul.

I think it's on of the most uncharming special livery of all time.
Look very boring and doesn't make any senses to me.

Flew CA PEK-LAX-PEK on their 77W, not a bad experience but would I rather fly them again?
Not in the next 5 years.

Congrats Air China.
Let's just blame it on yields.

I disagree. It's too one note, and the comic sans and the random layout of the faces in the middle of the two "swoops" makes it look messy.

I agree too, someone else mentioned a likeness for the old Aeroflot scheme as well, I think those of us old enough to remember the Cold War, it does perhaps hark back to a more sinister time in World history.

I'm glad they dropped the CAAC tag some time ago.

According to Boeing press release

The 40 people portrayed were selected from a social media campaign organized by Air China and Boeing in July 2012. People were invited through the most widely used social media platform in China to submit a smiling face with an inspiring message.

This is similar to what KL did. People submitted their pics and they were transfer to a tile scene and put onto a KL 777.

Wish the Chinese/Boeing could come up with something original.. IMO.
