Why No Sky Club In Denver?

I just realized DL doesn't have a Sky Club in Denver! Why in the world would they not have a club there? I'm sure with 30 or so flights a day, it could be justified.

They could use AA's old Admirals Club space.

That remains a good question and is frequently asked by many members. DL used to have a Crown Room on the upper level in Concourse C adjacent to the former Admirals Club.

The only real reasoning thats ever been mentioned is that the cost to lease the space is too high and/or they do not believe DL has enough members or premium traffic to justify a club.

I agree, I wish there was a SkyClub there too with the frequency that I am through DEN.

I dont think there is enough demand plus united has the Denver based passengers who would demand a lounge and fly constantly anyway i bet.

Not enough demand? With 30 flights a day, there's plenty of medallion members moving through.My bet it's the cost of leasing space, although AA still has their club and if it was too expensive, they'd surely eliminate it.

The AA Admirals Club at DEN is shared with BA, who uses it as their DEN lounge as well.

By splitting the club with BA as part of the AA/BA/IB trans-Atlantic JV, AA can justify the expense of a club at DEN. DL would have to rely on domestic traffic alone.

AA is in bankruptcy and has roughly half the amount of flights as DL in DEN, yet they have an Admirals Club. And it was around before BA come along. DL used to have a Crown Room Club in DEN, but I guess times have changed now. Airlines have to save money where they can, the economy is still sluggish, and DEN tends to be a rather marginal city in DL's network. Maybe Air France will set up shop in DEN someday, and then we could see a Sky Club here. But I don't see that happening anytime soon. I can dream though!

Well obviously price pays a factor in Denver if the airport let them have the space for free $1000/month there clearly would be demand there clearly is not enough demand for the amount of flyers especially since Delta had a club and decided to leave.

Also remember the question from Deltas eyes what flyers will Delta loose by not having a club in Denver? United has the demand and the passengers who really need it with long and missed connections and AA can really reduce the costs by sharing the lounge with British Airways. What would Delta gain by having a club for the company? Sure there would be people to use it who are members flying in from SLC/MSP/ATL/CVG/JFK etc etc but which passengers in Denver demand and would pay for the lounge. I The people flying in from the hubs/other club cities are not going to cancel because there is not club there. If Dellta really wanted to go in a city that helped its current club members it would be in LAS right now but the clubs cost would be astronomical times the amount of revenue generated from new members or LAS based flyers so they might not want to have one. High cost and little increased revenue means Delta will loose money overall by clubs in DEN or LAS. It seems like a business that doesn't care for its customers but i think it kind of is about maximizing profits more than please customers which may be a mistake in the long term ?

Delta could use one in CLT they have about 38 flights or so. Please correct me if I'm wrong

I interpret that as being a really good reason that DL doesn't have a lounge there - the inference being that if you put clubs in every airport then maybe your costs are going to be too high? Note that I have no idea of how many flights, types of pax, etc., are required to justify a lounge, but I would have thought 30 flights would be enough! But, it's hard to argue bankruptcy as being proof that your costs were higher than your revenues, and usually companies don't make that mistake in just one area.
I still haven't found a *A lounge in MIA either (it's been a year or so). Sort of makes sense since no one member has many flights, but in total theree has to be a lot of *Gold people transiting.

The (at that time) Crown Room Club in Denver was closed in the great CRC Massacre of early 2008. Eight CRCs were closed. Many paid members (including myself) were furious.

Delta also converted its Business lounges at JFK and ATL into regular CRCs. One would think that would hurt them in the competition for premium passenger revenue.

DL doesn't (really) offer any connections out of DEN. So there is, in my view, no real need for a lounge.
Most eligible pax don't show up hours early.
I know that it's nice to chill at the lounge, especially since the waiting area is relatively small, but it is what it is.
Free WiFi is something that a lot of people, including myself, would value more than a lounge, where you have to pay for WiFi or have to have some sort of WiFi plan.
Where have all the tri-jets gone...

I was told by an Admirals Club employee (so I do not know if this is fact) that AA contracts the clubs out. As a result, the "cost" to AA may be factored differently than for DL.

I would think that if DL opened a club they could pull in AS pax, DL pax, and if they allowed PP to be used at that one location + AX card holders then they could make the money work in their favor.

But, then again, possibly not since PP can access United Club and AX requires you to be on that airline that day (as I understand the rules).

I can, it is full of leisure traffic, not business traffic.

Interesting that Denver can't sustain a club, but PHL, Jacksonville, IND, MKE all have clubs.

Also thought it was interesting that Sky Club members also have access to the Admirals Club in Bogota, US Airways Club in PIT and United's Red Carpet club in San Salvador.

Probably makes sense to combine clubs where they can to spread out the expenses.

Sky Club members do not have access to these clubs. Only Skyteam Elite Plus and Business class pax who are flying a same day non-stop international itin on a Skyteam airline out of these airports have access to these clubs. You need to re-read the club locations page more carefully.

UA does not have a club in SAL...UA flyers have access to TACAs lounge.

A couple things: PHL has the flight to CDG, so that probably helps (as does the size of the city).

Bogota: you must be in J or STE+. This is also a change. It used to be you'd get the TACA lounge.

Jacksonville: DL owns Florida.

IND, MKE: all are holdovers from NW I believe.

MKE has a large number of SC and medallions left over from NW days. Also, it pulls lots of northern Chicago suburbs. While MKE as a spoke/focus city has shrunk, it maintains a pretty good number of flights.

That said, it is also the only club in the airport (not that best care club is gone).

I think MKE is pretty secure, as it is always busy.

The former crown room is still there, sitting empty. If AS moves over by DL then it might reopen but I doubt it.
That would make no sense for sky team members flying out of terminal three going over terminal four to use the US club.

The IND Sky Club was planned as a WorldClub in the NW IND focus city days when the new terminal was under construction, and was originally supposed to have simultaneously opened with the terminal. After the DL/NW merger, the IND Sky Club was delayed, and didn't open until about 2 years after the new terminal opened.

As far as DEN goes, I think WN took over the old admirals club and maybe even the space cross the way for the new flight attendant and pilot crew bases which opened October 1.

I really liked the old DEN Admirals Club, it was nice for a smaller club. I think part of it was that it has nice view of the AA gates and out toward the northwest part of the field. Plus it had a lot of natural light. The new AA club faces into the atrium and comes across rather dark with the lack of natural light.
