Surprised to see VS at #5 given all the reports of their declining standards. I also don't find NZ deserving of the #3 spot.

That's all well and good for VX but see this thread:

Can Virgin America Survive? (by irelayer Oct 31 2012 in Civil Aviation)

The future does not seem so bright for them, regardless of awards or accolades.

I believe NZ deserves good credit for its innovative products, such as its new premium economy product and the skycouch in economy. Also its business class continues to be very much up there and certainly competes very strongly against any US carrier.

Virgin America is like Kingfisher of India - Offering an on-board service that everyone likes but nobody is willing to pay for.
You are 100 times more likely to catch a cold on a flight than an average person!

Hope VX doesn't drown in debt like the latter....
If it wasn't for AI and those money mongers sitting in the parliament, 9W would have been as big as SQ...:(

I was doing some research on low cost airlines last week and found out US lowcost airlines are way better in service and legroom than European lowcost carriers.

How is it possible for a US lowcost carrier to offer such great service , lightyears ahead of European lowcost carriers?

Are you referring to Southwest? They aren't really a LCC anymore. Many of their staff are paid more than those at other carriers, and the only thing different about their model is that they have an abundance of point-to-point service, don't have assigned seats, bag fees, a first class cabin or interline agreements. The rest is the same, including ticket prices, which are sometimes more expensive than at "legacy" carriers. Ryanair, Easyjet, Transavia, etc. charge far, far less than Southwest for their flights (less than EUR100 a flight is the norm) but then have a multitude of auxiliary fees. The only thing we have close to the European LCCs in this country are Spirit and Allegiant, who are far from stellar and would likely never win a Conde Nast award.

A bunch of BS.

Virgin Atlantic Y should certainly not be included. Tight legroom and mediocre food.

Also Asiana and Qatar should rank among top 5 and they do on other lists.

Interesting. All airlines that I would rank highly. From your link:

United States Airlines

VIRGIN AMERICA, 79.6
JETBLUE AIRWAYS, 68.8
HAWAIIAN AIRLINES, 61.0
ALASKA AIRLINES, 49.9
SOUTHWEST AIR LINES, 49.3
FRONTIER AIRLINES, 49.3
DELTA AIR LINES, 40.7
AIRTRAN AIRLINES, 37.7
UNITED AIRLINES, 33.6
AMERICAN AIRLINES, 31.6

I'm sad to see AA so low.   The first half of 2012 they were EXCELLENT! Not so much since then.
What is VX doing to rank so high? In particular versus B6 (whom I just booked a ticket with tonight)? Is the front cabin that important?

Does VX have that much debt? I know they have lost money, but I believe the investors have continued to fund them. Now, the investors might have debt, but that is not the same as VX having that debt...

Please keep the discussion on topic and about the list from Conde Nast. The thread is not about the financial health of VX. If you wish to discuss that, there is an existing thread on that subject:
