Spirit Pulling Out Of BOS?

Sun Nov 04, 2012 4:18 pm

Has anybody heard anything about Spirit pulling out of Logan? I usually travel exclusively US, but was going to give NK a go just for shits and giggles to see what they are really like. It seems like NK have nothing going out of BOS after Nov. 7. Are they pulling out or is this a scheduling glitch?

Yes I know that they are not at all glamorous travel, but I figure if I am going to advise family (once a year travelers at best) to avoid Spirit, than perhaps I should FLY the airline first before I start speaking about them.

No. Where are you not seeing any flights?

That's a really noble thing to do. Use a business once before you decide you hate it.

I believe they have a schedule change after November 7th with ORD being dropped seasonally and adding RSW seasonally. That's normal for them. It may apply to other markets in/out of BOS too.

it was BOS-TPA

Not sure if it was axed. It is not listed on wikipedia as active service, but we all know the reliability of wiki...

It appears flights are ending on the 7th. Really isn't a huge deal... was just wondering if anybody here had any insight. It is more of a curiosity on my part. If this was an ongoing flight, I may be inclined to take it for the above mentioned reasons. If not, I will just take the old standby US.

I really didn't search for other options out of BOS on spirit before I posted this...my bad. You are correct that a schedule change is occuring. It specifically revolves around THIS flight. My original post was improperly worded.

NK has never served this route... At least in the last few years.

NK has not served it directly, but as a one-stop. I know what I was looking for and am not going to find it ;-P

BOS-MYR and BOS-FLL are around in November and December. BOS-MYR departs at 5:20am! One has to be quite serious about that vacation to MYR.

If Spirit pulled out of BOS it would be more of a blessing. I had the "pleasure" or flying them once from MCO-FLL back in the spring of 2007...45minute A319 flight and I wanted to shoot myself. Cramped, miserable personnel. On the way back when I was checking in at FLL the check-in was a cluster f**k to say the least. You could not see any self check-in kiosks, the lines were teriible and it was plain and simply chaotic.

Not sure how things are now, but something about them just screams 'bottom of the barrel.'

Or great as it allows a full day on both ends of the trip.

Plus it's not even the earliest departure out of Terminal B - US Airways has a 515a-ish flight out of Boston to Charlotte that connects into the first bank at Charlotte.

I take it you're going more fro s**ts and less for giggles? The employees are good, hardworking people, but they don't work for the most comfortable airline. If you are over 5'5" tall, you might want to consider trying NK out on their seasonal BOS-ACY flight, instead of enduring it for 3+ hours. I'm 6'1" and I cannot endure LGA-MYR. But, if you are going for the cheap fare, they are your best bet. Just a friendly warning.

I've flown B6 more times than I can count. I used to take them roughly monthly down to NYC when I was at SUNY Oswego for college.

After NK suddenly left DCA for BWI, I wouldn't be shocked if they ever did leave BOS for a lower cost alternate. I know ORH is dying for service...or there's always MHT and PVD. The smaller airports not only offer cost advantages but also allow for more growth and less competition.

ACY-BOS returns in April 2x daily. With ACY-BOS unavailable for 5 months of the year on NK and never an early AM flight anyways from ACY, BOS-PHL fares high, I'd think Frontier or JetBlue could do well on routes like 3x daily to BOS from ACY and ABE. For Jetblue, I don't think it would impact EWR-BOS but instead pull in from other areas and help long BOS routes from the new short connections.

Maybe pull a SkyBus and use PSM? Maybe I'm dreaming...

The BOS-MYR flight (NK 103) continues to FLL and is timed to connect with the morning bank of departures to the Caribbean and Latin America.

Having worked for Spirit at FLL up until February of this year, I can proudly report that this is no longer the case.

We do the best we can with the resources with have available to us. Just remember that it's an ultra-low-cost-carrier and adjust your expectations accordingly. I've flown FLL-BOS and back for $21.62 and had no illusions about generous legroom or reclining seats.

Well, the last few times I have flown NK the employees and crew have been seemingly smilier and happier than they sued to. One problem I have noticed with some crews, however, is communication. We once had to sit at the gate at LGA for 2.5 hours while, according to the pilot, we were waiting for maintenance crews to fix a minor mechanical problem, but according to the flights attendant up front, we were waiting for our flight manifest due to overbookings and seat re-assignments. Not a biggie, as either way we were gonna sit for a couple of hours, but it would have been nicer to have a concrete reason for the delay. On the brighter side, though, we were allowed, about 2 hours into the ordeal, to deplane to go to the Dunkin Donuts that is located near the NK gate at LGA. Overall, however, the crews were in good spirits (pun not intended until I typed it   )

But yeah, not the most comfortable. I was definitely ready to get off as soon as possible after landing in MYR.

Several years back they did serve Providence, Packed 'em in for two years, then packed up. Not a very good customer service reputation then and after.

ACY-BOS returns in April 2x daily.

Seems ACY area still will be in rebuilding mode in April, no?

Believe it or not, ACY area didn't get hit as bad as areas north (Seaside, Brick, etc.) everything in Atlantic City is open now with few exceptions... however, we will see if this Nor'easter tomorrow wreaks more havoc
