New DL And US Seasonal Service Coming To EYW

Mon Nov 05, 2012 4:48 am

Delta Air Lines announced seasonal nonstop LGA-EYW service for the holidays and in the spring, while US Airways announced seasonal DCA-EYW service for similar time frames instead. Delta's service will be on the 737-700 while US AIrways will use the E170. Wonder how EYW can handle long haul service with the short runway. Probably heavy weight restrictions.

I agree that the DL service with the 737-700 will be subject to significant weight restrictions, but I wonder if the E170 may be able to operate out of EYW without significant restrictions, considering that it will not need a full load of fuel (probably closer to half of a full load) to make it to DCA. Interesting that DL doesn't match the US service between January 5th and March 2nd.

Both old news. There were threads about these weeks ago.

Delta has 737-700s? This is news to me.

OK, I really did not remember, I guess I've fallen out of touch.

Yes. There are 10 737-700s in the fleet.

EYW-DCA is over 1000 miles. There is no way in hellfire an E70 could pull that off with only half tanks

The E170 and B737 shouldn't really have much issues IMO.

E170 at MTOW would require around 5300ft, so 4800ft for a flight of 1000nm shouldnt be much of an issue on weight.

The B737 is powerful enough on full rating, so again i dont see much issues there either.

Those performance figures would be assuming light (or no) wind and ISA conditions. At EYW, temperature is always above ISA and there is always a bit of a sea breeze.

I seem to recall that per DL company policy, no aircraft will takeoff or land at EYW when the crosswind component is in excess of 10 or 15 kts.... can't recall the exact specifics. In any case, there are more performance restrictions than meet the eye. Runway length is not the only thing to be concerned about at EYW.

Hasn't FL been servicing EYW with 737's for a while (if they're still there now)?
Finally made it to an airline mecca!
