All-white 777 At BFI?

On my way in to work I sometimes see an all-white 777 parked near the 787s at Boeing Field. Does anybody know what it's doing there?

This 777-200LR was built for Air Austral (original registration F-OLRB) but was not taken up.

Why doesn't boeing make Delta an offer to add to its 777LR fleet. Boeing already had deposit money on the plane, how hard can it be to configure it to DL's specs.

Boeing isn't very good at cost effective reconfiguration.
That is why places like Northwest Aerospace Technologies, Flight Strutures and Heath Tecna exist.

why does everyone just think make someone an offer to (insert american airline name here) take it.

I am sure boeing has a plan for a M$200+ item on its inventory. Its not like a $2 shop. Boein may want to keep it on hand for that moment when an airline is willing to pay above list price for it to get one quick. or a leasing company to buy it, or god forbid for an airline that needs it due to a write off.

In the first line (insert american airline name here) has gone bust because of deals like this in the past.

But DL has the 77L. Merely retrofitting the interior/flight deck to DL specs and still selling it at a substantially reduced premium is an option DL should be highly interested in and Boeing looking for.

The likelihood of an airline paying above list price for ANY airplane by ANY manufacturer is near nil. Sure an A/C insurance company 'could' find interest in replacing a hull loss, the time/cycle consideration would put the cost lower to pay the value of the lost A/C to the carrier than replace it with even a heavily reduced/subsidized airframe that Boeing is not likely to keep around anyway, nevermind the 777 line has encountered exactly how many 'hull losses' since inauguration? Helluva gamble.

IMO, this one will go to the first buyer willing to pay plus cost for it. Just as any retailer with extra product will be willing to sell it above cost to clear inventory.

What isnt true? I didnt say UA didnt buy those airframes, I merely said airlines will not pay over list price for them. In fact I said at the bottom of my post that the A/C will go to the first buyer offering anything over the cost Boeing incurred building it.

I didnt say they did. I think it is a reasonably fair statement it would allow them slightly higher A/C utilization on their ULH routes but never did I suggest they needed the frame, simply the cost to retrofit it to DL standards would not be so absorbinant as to be adversely beneficial for them to look at purchasing it.
