Aeroflot Aircraft On The Show Airport

Fri Oct 20, 2000 12:10 am

I have a question, I watched the show airport yesterday on BBC America, well they showed this Aeroflot plane bound for St. Petersburg from LHR. The question I had was what type of plane it was? I think it had 2-4-2 seating and it looked quite outdated on the inside but it looked great otherwise, the didnt show the exterior of the aircraft though. Can anyone help me out?

Aeroflot has Russian widebodies with 3-3-3 seating only - the IL86 and IL96-300. What did the interior look like? Can you describe what you saw?

Cheers!

IL96 2-4-2 Business Class

Fri Oct 20, 2000 12:38 am

The Aeroflot website shows IL96-300 seating as 2-2-2 in First, 2-4-2 in Business and 3-3-3 in coach! Interesting. I've never been aboard an IL96-300. However, Aeroflot never used them on LED-LHR-LED to my knowledge, only SVO-LHR-SVO. I've never seen nor heard of an IL96-300 landing at or taking off from LED, though I am sure it's not out of the question. Just that Aeroflot doesn't operate long-range international flights using IL96-300 from LED, only SFO-LED-SVO with 763 (as far as I know).

The seat design was quite strange, The plane had the air vents and/or the reading lights on the back of each seat. The walls were this cream color that looked like they had brown paint splattered on them. It might have been 3-3-3. The buisness class seats were this brown material.

IL96-300 At LHR

Fri Oct 20, 2000 1:11 am

Well, that surely was an IL96-300. The IL86 never had the reading lights in the seatbacks, nor did the IL62, but all Ilyushin jetliners had ventilator fans mounted there, each with its own individual motor. I often wonder how much bloody weight those things added to the aircraft! I hope to hell Aeroflot doesn't use brown seat covers...that would be hideous!

I flew on Il62 only twice, both Il62 and Il62M, but I'm pretty sure they had ventilators in their usual place (above the seat)... unlike, of course, Il86 that has it in a seat back..

I have seen the very same show in the UK. The plane is an Airbus A310-300. The interior is the origional Pan Am design, which neither Delta or Aeroflot have bothered to change, although I think the Business and First had been changed.

Hope that helps.

Aeroflot From LED.

Fri Oct 20, 2000 11:14 pm

All SU flights from LED are operated by Pulkovo (at least all the ones to w.europe), wether they have a "Z8" flight number or not.

Pulkovo fly the Tu-154 to LHR in the summer (every Saturday) and change it to a Tu-134 in winter. The schedules for LGW are constantly changing, but usually 3-4 times per week.

Very rarely, you might see a Z8 coloured Il-86 at LHR. Maybe that's what you saw, but I doubt it. An error with their video editing? showing the inside of the wrong plane?

The one thing you can say about Pulkovo, is that all of their aircraft look great. Clean, bright, white paint and no jet blast stain on the tail. Always come out well on my photos. A real treat to fly in too.

Do me a favour...post your experiences with Pulkovo in the Trip Reports forum! I'd like to know about them, and how they compare to Aeroflot. Thanks!
