DL To CLO ..What Are The Chances?

Mon Nov 12, 2012 11:00 pm

I would love to see a DL flight from ATL - CLO. Cali Colombia has got be be one of the most up and coming destinations in Colombia. Can DL make it work with AA in the picture ?

thanks:

Wouldn't they try for BAQ, CTG and MDE first before CLO? What economic advantage does CLO pose for ATL other than my much desired goal of taking business from AA away from them? If AA is canceling like crazy, why are they looking at hiring more flight attendants (based on another thread)? To screw them around and then throw out?

I would see the first three and CLO is not impossible, just not feasible at the moment.

CO dropped Cali after trying it for several years. I am not sure how well it will do out of ATL>

CLO from ATL or CLO from JFK?
ATL-Colombia market other than ATL-BOG is an small market, even with all possible connections @ ATL mega hub.
However, IMHO, given proper massive promotion in the U.S., a suitable fuel-efficient +/-100passenger aircraft and an ATL connections-friendly schedule, ATL-CTG twice/thrice per week may look interesting and could possibly have some demand.
I'm not on CM's payroll.

They could possibly do a daily 737 from JFK, but with AV on the route (albeit seasonally), is there a big-enough market there?

I can name at least three cities that are far more up and coming, namely Medellín, Cartagena and Barranquilla. The economy at the Valle del Cauca region has been stagnant for years (no new markets, no improvement in the Buenaventura port situation, no significant new sectors or industries), and the city of Cali has been plagued by corruption in it's administration for several electoral periods, which has undermined it's growth. It is by no means a poor area or a small market, but there are certainly others, much more dynamic or much more touristic, to look at.

AA can barely make the flight to MIA work on a 738, it's not even daily year-round.

Agree. Actually, a twice weekly service on 737-800s could very much work given the proper marketing.

Avianca is not flying seasonal anymore. CLO-MDE-JFK is 3x weekly on the slow season and on busier periods it operates daily on A319s.
