Xiamen Joins SkyTeam, ST Undisputed #1 In China

Wed Nov 21, 2012 4:00 pm

Hi All,

Xiamen Airlines ( MF ) officially joined the SkyTeam alliance today as the alliance's 19th member. This further strengthens SkyTeam's hold on the greater China region. Per the linked article, I look forward to MF's receipt of 787s and possible routes to Europe and North America.

Very impressive coverage of China Mainland and Taiwan for Skyteam alliance...

MF is a good airline, and is a nice addition for ST

And with a new, bold, livery to boot! With CI, MU, CZ, and MF, SkyTeam owns China. Would be nice to see a gaggle of Chinese airlines sporting the SkyTeam colors. What airport would that most likely happen?

Kudos to Skyteam for snagging Xiamen! Beautiful aircraft, beautiful FA's, but crappy customer service on the ground. I work near United Centre in Admiralty in HK. The people don't even let you take brochures and they snap at you if you want to look at tourist info. I won't fly Xiamen Airlines to punish them for their crappy attitude. But their planes are nice, especially the new livery.

That's a shame because their in-flight service is rather good IMO

I have heard nothing but good things as well. A colleague took KL's flight to Xiamen and did intra-China flights with MF using Xiamen as a base. They had an absolutely blast.

While SkyTeam is so dominate in China, it would be good if they could shore up a partner in India and South America as they are tragically lacking in those regions.

DL and Gol have a strong partnership going. DL has invested a few million in Gol. Having flown on them a few times, I'm hoping that one day we'll see Gol in ST.

Wow... all Skyteam needs now is a better presence in India. But whom?

Add to this KE and their coverage of China is second to none.

South America will be nice, but is not as critical of a market as India. Gol might be the right partner as rwy04lga notes.
