DL A330 At SFO Today.

Fri Nov 23, 2012 7:04 am

There's a DL 332 Sitting at SFO today at least since 5PM and still at just before 10PM. The SkyTeam 767 is also there, probably the NRT flight.

Anyone know why the 332? Charter?

Well considering DL's racked up huge upgrades to LAX (every type in the fleet apart from the MD80s and DC9 will be in LAX tomorrow), I wouldn't be surprised if it was for that..
It's all about the destination AND the journey.

Where is the A332 parked? Domestic or international?

The 767 would not be the NRT flight as it arrives at around 9 am and departs by noon.

It's ship #3360 (N860NW) and operated DL2126 from ATL-SFO on Nov 24th, and departs from SFO-MSP on Nov 25th as DL2305. Anyone care to share why the equipment change for those flights? DL2126 is normally operated by a B752, although FlightAware is showing it as an A332 on Nov 24th also, and DL2305 is anything from an A320/MD90/B752/B753! FlightAware is also is showing it as an A332 on Nov 24th! I'm sure it has to do with all the extra flights over the Thanksgiving weekend, and having to position certain aircraft where needed.

A correction to my above posting; the first line should say "Nov 22nd" and the second line should say "Nov 23rd".

It's due by and large to repositioning from idle capacity over the Thanksgiving holiday. The extra seats is a plus but it's not the prime reason. The same a/c will continue onto AMS on the 23rd. Yes, they could have just done ATL-MSP tomorrow but like I said there's idle capacity so they will capitalize on it but ultimately it's to get the a/c to MSP for flight 264 (Ibelieve). I won't be 100% sure until I check ship's routing later.

I am always interested on how Delta seemingly can up-size equipment on key routes on peak days without difficulty compared to other airlines. Do other airlines right size their equipment to such a specific day of the year level? How far ahead of time do they decide to allow reservations to keep on accepting new bookings beyond the capacity of the scheduled aircraft, as an example, B752, knowing that they need to then add an extra section or as Delta seems to do it, swap in a larger or much larger aircraft into the standard schedule. They have to have pretty smart group of operations people and some pretty decent data systems to handle the variability of these type of peak day up-sized operations. I remember reading how for quite a while WN 's systems could not handle the difference between a new layout 143 seat 737 and the traditional 137 seat 737, and so they only sold the larger capacity a/c to 137 seats.

DL's been known to upgauge big-time when there's a frequent travel day.

The 767 is most likely for the NRT leg.

As I stated above, the 767 could not be for the NRT flight. DL 209, SFO-NRT, departs at 1230 and there was no delay yesterday. Educated guess, it was for ATL.

Delta has two skyteam 767s, that is N175DZ and N844MH. Running those regs on flightaware does not yield any results for SFO on 11/22.

Apparently it's doing SFO-MSP-RON-MSP-LAX-ATL so yes, just extra capacity for the after Thanksgiving rush.

Usually after bumming around the Pacific for a while, those 767s will come back to ATL for maintenance (from PDX, SEA, SFO, etc.)

there was definitely a Skyteam 767 there at night. I know of no other SkyTeam partners who operate 767's to SFO.

What you saw was probably one of DLs Skyteam liveried B752 aircraft. N717TW was in SFO that day as FlightAware shows.
