Current Libyan Airlines Fleet?

Mon Nov 26, 2012 4:56 pm

Having seen both A320s in Libyan Airlines colors at Manchester the past weeks, I was wondering what the current fleet looks like. The A320s at MAN are leased from Nouvelair Tunesie (TS-INN and TS-INP). Any other planes in use? Are the CRJ900s back in use?

They have the three A320-200s from Nouvelair for flights to the EU plus own A320-200s, CRJ-900s and ATR 42-500s: http://www.ch-aviation.ch/portal/aircraft?search=1&cha=LNA

Thanks for that. What is the reason for having to use the Nouvelair planes to the EU? Their own metal apparently not approved (yet) to fly to the EU?

Libya would have been blacklisted by the European Union because of a lack of safety oversight by the civil aviation authority. To avoid being blacklisted, the Libyan government banned its own carriers from flying to the European Union until further notice since April of this year. It was supposed to be a ban until November 22 but I guess we can now say "until further notice" as it is still in place. This is why several Libyan carriers have wet-leased aircraft from carriers in other countries to operate their flights to the EU.
