Vista Jet Orders Up To 142 Global Express Bizjets

Tue Nov 27, 2012 12:54 pm

Everybody talks about Boeing and Airbus around here, but Bombardier is riding just as high.

Bombardier has secured another multi-billion dollar order for business jets (up to $7.9 billion if all options are taken), this time from Austrian operator Vista Jet. The order is as follows:

Firm orders for- 25 Globals 5000 with a range of 5200NM, 25 Globals 6000 with a range of 6000NM, and 6 Global 8000 with a range of 7900NM. Plus options for 86 more Global Express

Bombardier secured a similar order from Netjets not too long ago, and Netjets finally has a good competitor on the long- haul market

Really surprised by the size of this order. Vistajet has always talked about growth coming from the BRIC countries, can't see how Europe can sustain all of that large cabin capacity. Great news for bizav though.
My definition of cool ? Not trying so hard to be cool.

Vista jet is Targeting China with this massive order, they want to beat Netjets to the punch.

With Europe's finances in disarray, no way this order is meant for them

As for Bombardier, this further cements their business jet division as their "bread n butter"

Congrats to both companies for this historical order!

"By any standard, this is an historic order for Bombardier," says Steve Ridolfi, president, Bombardier Business Aircraft. "It goes without saying that we are thrilled VistaJet has again chosen to grow their fleet with the industry-leading Global family," Ridolfi adds.

I seem to recall reading that bizjets account for 75% of BBD aerospace revenue. It's why the company can easily survive the slow times in its commercial aircraft program.

How big is VistaJet's current fleet? Seems to be about 30 aircraft.

Vista Jet's current fleet is around 15 aircraft. All bombardier types, Lears, Challengers, Globals.

Ordering long-haul Globals makes me think they're going to set shop in China and expand like crazy there. You need Globals to connect China to Europe and North America

How is this order going to affect the C-series? Will "Bomber" use this to further develop its commercial arm or are they going to concentrate now on their business division due to the lack of interest in their commercial division?

I think the former. BBD does not have a cash flow issue. But if the C-Series program take longer than expected to start generating revenues, this order will definitely improve BBD's credit rating. IMO, BBD has an excellent offering in the C-Series and they will continue to develop their commercial division.

Did Vista Jet make this order post NBAA Conference? I don't recall reading about anything like this in the daily NBAA Newspapers during NBAA.

Netjets just took delivery of their first Global 6000 during NBAA in Orlando last month. The Global 6000 flew in as C-GLUP in Net Jets paint, but while on static display it wore N160QS - it had to go back to Canada after NBAA for a couple final touch ups but Net Jets pretty much otherwise took their delivery then.

Yes this was a new order announced yesterday, long after NBAA

Fyi N160QS is on its way to CMH as we speak.

There are the airlines we talk about, and now the Netjets and Vistajets putting the final nails in the coffin for the First Class that we knew of. These two will be the First Class of the future: book on demand, leave when you want and come back when you want, no hassles, and even economical when traveling in large teams. Very interesting trend.

F on an airliner is still a lot cheaper than a long range bizjet.

For one person, yes. But when you put eight or nine people on a long range bizjet, the numbers start to even out. The bizjet will always be at least somewhat more expensive, but it's got other benefits that the airlines just can't offer, and that helps the business case quite a bit.

Plus, you don't have to deal with airline schedules and routes. I agree...this could very well eat into the F market.
