B777F Belly View Landing Video

Tue Dec 04, 2012 3:29 am

G'day All,

I happened upon this wonderful belly view video of a B777F on approach and landing;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSc4Dd9x1eg&feature=plcp

The best bit is from 10 seconds on, where we can simultaneously see vortices coming off the cowlings of the massive GE90's whilst the gear comes down   . This video is in the same vein as another popular belly view video of a B742F;

Nice video's! How did they get only the nose gear down on the B742?

Phew ... when I read this thread title first, I saw "777F belly landing video" ... glad it's not that! Thanks for sharing this (and for not landing a 777 on its belly!)

Quoting AV8AJET (Reply 1):

Most modern commercial types are equipped with alternate extension systems to allow deployment of the landing gear via gravity. In the case of the B742, I believe there is an alternate extension for each of the 5 legs, thus, any individual gear can be extended separately.

"777F belly landing video"

That's originally what I entered as the title (quite innocently)! I then realised how it could be misread and changed it to be more suitable.

It makes me happy

When people cant understand why I love planes I direct them to things like this, I always find it amazing people get obsessed with cars because of the speed while looking down on planes as nerdy or boring.. yet look at the power and speed in a plane and it can soar 50 thousand feet up in the sky. Great vid.

Love it! LH has forward and downward facing cameras on their 748s that you can watch on the IFE. I took a video of the forward facing one when landing and taking off a week ago and it is awesome indeed!

It's a great way to start the day, isn't it?

YouTube has certainly got much better over the years with respect to aviation and airplane related videos.

Quoting Giancavia (Reply 6):

I suppose that it may in part be due to the fact that most people’s interaction with aircraft is as a passenger only.

Quoting Norcal773 (Reply 7):

I think the backward view is best as you get to see the wings, engines and landing gear!

3S 77F

I think so. Several of the video comments have stated as such, although there is no definite answer.

Agreed, but it either wasn't working or wasn't available on D-ABYA this day, only forward and downward...camera 3 was inoperative.

That was an extremely cool view indeed, thanks for sharing. Looked like a very smooth landing.

On a sidenote though - why oh why do so many videos have to be ruined by stupid music?? Drives me nuts.

It does ruin the video. I'd rather hear ambient sound rather than some shi* rock music or ever worse rap music.
I remedy this just by clicking my speakers off.

These videos confirm that engineering is art whose quality can be judged by measurable means.
