Air Tran Emergency At RDU 12/3?

Wed Dec 05, 2012 1:48 am

I took my boys out to the observation deck at RDU, and an incoming Air Tran 717 was immediately met on 23R by several fire engines. The aircraft slowed to a stop, and was not moved from the runway, causing all traffic, for about an hour, to land on 23L.

When they got the tug to pull the aircraft to the gate, it appeared maybe the right reverse thruster was stuck. Is that common? Anyone have information?

It was interesting for a little bit. Just curious.

That explains why RDU was reporting 1HR-1.5HR delays briefly yesterday

Sounds like some sort of issue with the right hydraulic system. If u lose that system it affects landing gear, outboard spoilers and inability to stow right thrust reverser. Def wud be an emergency condition
