Pakistan Allows Gulf Carriers A New Destination

Thu Dec 06, 2012 1:05 pm

Etihad, Emirates, Qatar, Flydubai and Air Arabia have been permitted to serve Sialko from whenever they choose to, currently PIA and Shaheen fly to the Gulf from there, with Qatar Cargo the only foreign operato.

An MoU with Oman also allow Oman Air to serve the same as as well as Multan, plus unlimited passenger services from Gwadar by carriers of both countries, a former Omani territory sold to Pakistan in the 1950s, Oman Air served the place in the 1990s with ATR, while PIA have been flying the route since over 20 years.

In other update Pakistan are also said to have granted Turkish Airlines permission to start four weekly service to Lahore from January.

Finally! The LCCs will be the first to pounce on Sialkot as it's the perfect kind of market they target. High local O&D, but not necessarily the largest market to the rest of the world as opposed to ISB, KHI, LHE.

Finally they started this good to see Direct flights from Gulf to smaller cities in Pakistan.

Well Emirates has been planning to fly to Multan there just waiting until the new terminal will open up. Rumor has it that will be a twice weekly flight.

I wonder why Saudia, Gulf Air and Kuwait Airways are excluded from this.

Well Saudia definitely does as PIA operate 747s from Sialkot to Jeddah, also PIA fly to Kuwait from there so some potential maybe for Nas Air, Bahrain Air and Jazeera Airways if not the flag carriers.

Also RAK Airways are planning to launch Islamabad from 29 March, their third station here.

Multan and Sialkot will be excellent additions for the ME carriers. I even think a low cost carrier can venture into Faisalabad and Gwadar as well. Do correct me if I'm wrong.

Of course the bilaterals is another issue.

Whoever flies to Sialkot are probably going to be staying at Hotel One by Peral Continental. Probably Ramada Hotel formerly Holiday Inn or Hotel One.

I find from the OPs link that both FlyDubai and Emirates have rights to fly to Sialko. To Multan, what airlines were granted rights?

Is EK going to start launching more routes on a few weekly services again? I recall that used to be typical for them, then it was a large number of cities launched with daily service.

All ME carriers barring SV, do not have a layover in any city in Pakistan, the crew does a turnaround.

I think SV crew do not layover in Peshawar.

No airline has been granted MUX yet, but EK rumored to do twice weekly.

That was a typo, the city name is Sialkot.
