LX 445 LCY-GVA Emergency, Lands In STN

Sat Dec 15, 2012 9:47 am

According to Flightradar24, today's LX 445 flight from LCY to GVA declared an emergency just minutes after take-off, then landed in STN.

Does anyone know the reason of the emergency?

The ground track is quite interesting and I thought I'd post it:

What's also interesting is that neither Flightstats nor GVA's flight arrivals table have updated their pages to show that the flight was diverted.

Why STN? At the point where they diverted both LHR and LGW were closer.

Simply vectored under Essex radar from over Basildon/Southend area where it appears to have changed for the standard departure route.

It that point a left turn puts you on the direct arrivals pattern for Stansted and still with Essex radar !

Heathrow would be near 100 track miles (Even without a turn over Brentwood ) Gatwick would be almost 80 track miles to land whilst just 50 miles for Stansted from the Basildon/Southend area

Another consideration is that LHR and LGW were very busy with arrivals and departures and STN was not as busy.

Not a consideration at all .

STN is the designated divert port for LCY period.

Actually they might have considered Southend if it were not for height.

Or a compressor stall. If they heard a loud bang, that could be it.
