Qatar Airways To Upgrade A330s

Sat Dec 22, 2012 9:56 am

Qatar Airways CEO Mr. Al-Baker plans to upgrade "some" of his A330s with "new seats and IFE" as he plans to keep them on the fleet for at least 3 more years.

I really hope they will install the new business class seats as on the 787. Im not sure they plan to have WIFI or not. I predict the A333 will have them first; then some of the A330s that are being used on European routes.

I flew on Qatar Airways on the last 2 weeks, a mix of A-346, A-333, 77W and 787 and while the other aircraft had comfortable seats, I thought their A-330 seats were incredably cramped. Due to the footrests I couldn't stretch my legs and my legs hurt as hell. Luckily the F/A could reseat me to a bulkhead seat. Really I am not that fuzzy about seats, even Vueling, Ryanair and Air Asia are reasonable fine for me. So I hope they fix this issue as well, maybe the pitch isn't that bad as long as there is room to stretch your legs under the seat in front of you without the footrests poking in your knees or shins. So it makes sense to bring the 330 up to their standards.

To me the 787 have the worst seats in terms of pitch and width. Even the A320s are wider according to me. Did you notice the same?

In the 787 both seatpitch and width was worse than on the nice 77W I just came off from on my earlier sector (flew DPS-SIN-DOH-LHR on wednesday), but I could live with it. Still I expected it to be a bit better as it's Qatars new flagship aircraft. I think they should maintain at least the generous 77W seatpitch to compensate for 9 abreast seating in a cabin narrower then the 777, just like Emirates does on its 10 abreast 777s.

Good for Qatar, the A330 still has a good life ahead of it and is just a great plane filing an important niche cost effectively. I wish AC was as positive on their 330's but at least they are still maximizing their great 767 fleet

I recently had a flight on a Qatar A320 and a SAS A319. For some reason the SAS cabin felt really big around me while the QR felt like a sardine can. The SAS aisle also felt very generously wide and yet the QR aisle very narrow.

I'm surprised, I would have expected the opposite to be the case. Well done to SAS on the superior cabin.

The QR A330s look great and hopefully this seat upgrade will make them better on the inside.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

I flew on an QR A332 last month and had no particular issues with the pitch and width on their A332 A7-ACG, I've no idea if there is difference with other frames? The IFE box was a bit oversized though. And, the IFE system was not working properly, had to get a reset a few times on my seat, which was very frustrating.
They say to be a 5* airline.... well, with the A330 and the DOH transfer, they are surely not worth 5 stars. Tripreport will come online in due time...

What makes a 5* airline, is it the 'newness' of the planes or the comfort and service provided? To me, I go for the latter. The A330 is a great plane, very quiet, comfortable assuming the right interior and to me, along with the 767 should be the mid-range workhorse of most airlines

QR A330's have different configurations (based on age ?); maybe, that's why MEA-707 was less lucky than airbuseric...indeed, the IFE box under the seat is quite big and can make a long flight quite uncomfortable, so I hope QR can do something about that...

some are 3 class (F/C/Y) and others 2 class (C/Y) ; it all depends on the registration which configuration they are...

Seats aren't too bad on their A330s IMO, but the IFE needs an upgrade. Screens aren't really state of the art...

They should also get rid of their F-Cl on their A346s and some A330s. It brings product inconsistency. Why an F on an A330 and not on a 77W ?

QR's latests A320s felt more comfortable than their A330s in my memories.
