So I guess the reason why Air China will leave at 1:30 pm is to compete with United flight to Tokyo? Be nice to see it leave at the evening. Going to be a nice line up at evening time at Terminal D with British Airways, Aero Mexico, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Viva Aerobus, Turkish Airline, and now Air China arriving in the evening.

I bet SQ are glad that they got in when they did to establish themselves...

Internationally, IAH will now have (aside from UA)
Viva Aerobus
Singapore
British Airways
Lufthansa
Qatar
Emirates
Turkish
Avianca (TA)
KLM
Air France
Aero Mexico
Air China
SonAir
Air Canada

Thats quite an impressive lineup. Only thing missing are some more S. American tails....LATAM maybe. Would be nice to see NZ and BW! And a return of KX

I remember when LAN Cargo would come in, those were the days... On another note, I'm surprised Avianca hasn't done anything in IAH. Maybe with UA dropping AUA, maybe Aruba Airlines may start service since they applied for USA routes not too long ago. Since MAR rumors have been floating around, maybe Conviasa may start service there, if not UA?

I think that may actually be UA that starts that service. Can the 787 do that?
Sidebar, I think UA can really use some, 10ish, 77Ls.

Yep, a decent lineup, I wonder if I'll live long enough to see 20 carriers here? Now if the following were still around, IAH would really have a sweet line up. As for additional carriers from Latin America, as long as UA is around, I doubt that few carriers from down south would want to take on Smisek's monster.

ALIA (Royal Jordanian)(70s/80s)
South African (80s)
Gulf Air(90s)
Pakistan
China Airlines
Viasa(70s/90s)
Caymen
Air Jamaica
*Aviteca
*SHASA
*TACA
*Above 3 merged into TACA Group
Canadian (AC takeover)
Aviasca
Aero Exo

Heading west on 1960 from Humble, if you look right before the fence, you can see from the UA hangars all the way to the beginning of Terminal B. I've seen that view many times drving to The Woodlands for swim meets.

Most airlines (Non-UA/CO) who began HOU-LGA eventually ended the flights. This was tried by AA, a couple times, and smaller carrier...believe sun country for time.

AA flew HOU-LGA for quite a long time; the flights were routed as AUS-HOU-LGA to provide a one-stop from AUS which is over 1500 miles from LGA. ATA (not Sun Country) flew HOU-LGA when they were code-sharing with WN.

Quoting thomasphoto60 (Reply 261):
Well I can't say for C but for B, the 2 north side pods were the int'l gates from the late 60s until the early 90s when D (IAB as it was called then) was opened. From what I know of terminal C's int'l gates, they were completed in the mid-80s and located on the south side of the terminal.

The international gates in Terminal C were C1-C3, which are now D1-D3. When Terminal IAB (renamed to Terminal D before Terminal E opened) was built, C1-C3 were attached to Terminal IAB and renumbered to IAB1-IAB3. That's why the walk from D4/D5 to D3 is so long; D3 is in the original Terminal C structure.

Quoting IAH59 (Reply 263):
Delta will be flying there new CRJ-900s to IAH.

Delta has been flying their CRJ-900's to IAH from most of their hubs apart from MEM & LGA. The now-discontinued DL Connection JFK-IAH service also used the CRJ-900.

Quoting DalDC9Bos (Reply 268):
Delta's relatively new service IAH to LGA, 3x a day.

LGA-IAH started with 4 daily frequencies.

Quoting DalDC9Bos (Reply 268):
I wouldn't be surprised if Virgin America added IAH service soon.

If they do, I doubt we'll see a response akin to UA's massive increase in EWR-LAX/SFO service. UA management seems bound and determined to squander their market position in Houston out of spite -- and good riddance!

Quoting shanderawx (Reply 260):

I doubt you flew into IAH in 1960.

Quoting IAH59 (Reply 251):
I guess your right but, I just don't want HOU take IAH opportunities away. Or UA to cut down even more from IAH.With Frontier, Spirit, and, Viva Aerobus customer then will option to have a cheap ticket out of IAH or HOU so sets competition for Southwest and Hobby.

As long as the competition is there, does it matter whether the service is at IAH or HOU? If you want competition for WN, it will be more direct if it's from HOU.

Disagree. IAH-AMS will ultimately be going 763 and as I said before if the the 763s on IAH-LHR are going to be 3-class it technically is a LOSS of 3 seats vs. the 2 daily 772s. Any way you slice it other carriers smell the blood in the water at IAH. Do you really think it is a coincidence that since the HOU debacle that we have seen WN expand at HOU, NK sprout up like a weed, and now AA going into IAH-JFK?

Quoting IAH59 (Reply 20):

Well - UA started IAH-YUL with the E70s...and AC/UA have JV transborder so there really is no need for both carriers on those routes. The routes that warrant the capacity of both airlines has them...namely YYZ and YYC. YYZ/YUL carrier a lot of price conscious transfers to Europe.

With LHR and GRU soon to be served with 3-class 763s, will UA bring a Global First Lounge to Terminal E? Maybe create a lounge-within-a-lounge on the third floor of the United Club?

Incidentally, I too thought IAH-LHR was switching to 2-class 763s with the addition of the third flight March 30. But was there ever a valid basis for this belief? I went back and looked at UA's press release and it's quite ambiguous -- it just says 763s with "flat bed seating" and Economy Plus, In other words, it left it open as to whether the aircraft would be 2-class or 3-class.

Competing effectively means better yield management and competition to BAs product offering. Its a nice boost in premium seats but overall capacity is down by 3. Schedules that far out are not accurate...a 777 on the sked right now may be a dummy...may be. Not being a pessimist just pointing some things out. I actually think that the HOU situation has been a boon for the market. Look at all of the non UA additions!

Yeah, but I think the 772 is not a dummy. I think the reason for the non UA additions is because, they are getting the merger sorted out, and they have other hubs to tend to. UA will add routes out of IAH in the future, since IAH is their most profitable hub. and the new routes that UA announced out of other hubs are mostly routes that are served already by IAH.

It was Continental's practice to reallocate the Christmas idled Europe heavies to LatAm routes. SJO/GUA/CCS/MEX/GDL would see the 777/764/762 fleet.

That route needs a bigger plane. US-CCS capacity is in definite need of larger planes and more frequency. IAH-CCS could easily use a 753 daily.

I dont know about UA, I do know that AA has asked the Venezuelan government for extra frequencies for MIA/DFW/JFK-CCS and has been denied over and over. I would imagine UA has probably made similar requests.

With all the wind we've had today, I'm sure much weirder things have happened today. I've seen all types of the UA fleet at D on good days. Usually when all the gates in E are occupied.

Well at 6:45 am it wasn't that windy at all and it was wet outside and rained earlier but, they were loading stuff on too the plane and when I went to D4 there was nothing on the board saying where it was going. I talk to some of the United guys at IAH there pretty dumb and don't much about anything :/.

Depends on who you talk to, not everyone who works at an airport knows every little thing that goes on...
