Me too..

According to the Finnish papers they still are at the Samara airport, it's night, local hotels are full and the small airport isn't too comfy for some 300 passengers and crew... No news of the Russian help. TUI Nordic couldn't tell how they get home yet.

The aircraft from MAN brought fresh crew and food supplies. The passengers were flown to Helsinki on the original aircraft at tthe end. People are angry at the tour operator, saying they were not well looked after.

News in Finnish: Iltasanomat

I think they did a good job bringing in food and the delay was not more than 15hrs at the end. And anyway, what can one expect when the flight gets diverted in the middle of nowhere. But of course people were tired and hungry, so I think once they get home and calm down, it will all be put into proportion, also by the ones who got affected.

So do people expect tour operators to have hoards of staff at every Russian diversion airfield then just in the remote chance one of their holiday flights gets diverted there then ?

Maybe the passengers should be happy it was not a Ryanair flight   "Flight cancelled, find your own way home". Now that would have been an adventure!

All well ends well, in this case

Definitely you get what you pay for.

Charter flights = older planes with higher aircraft rotation and flying at nearly maximum weights.
Max pax, less crew, expect less help from airlines.
Let's just blame it on yields.

What are they complaining for ? I am sure that there was enough Vodka available....

Seriously, any legacy carrier would have had exactly the same problem, exept that the pax number would have been smaller.

Plus, the delay gives them a compensation, should be e 600 per head.

Yup, so most of them will have gotten a 30-50% rebate on their holidays. I would chill (no pun intended) in Samara for a few hours for that as well.

Everytime one of these holiday flights lands at HEL the terminal is flooded with people in shorts and sandals, even in the winter months. Must be pretty unpleasant to be stuck in central Russia wearing this kind of attire!

I remember flying on this bird way back when, when she still wore the old BY (BAL) colours - I really miss that livery on the seven sixes.

If the aircraft is still configured the same as it was back then, legroom would have been a nightmare on such a flight - I would have been grateful for the diversion to stretch my legs!

G-OBYF is configured in a 328 all economy configuration. I am suprised that TOM use this aircraft on a long haul route. I thought this config was only used to operate short and medium haul routes

I used to be CC for BY, some of the 76s we had back then were configured to take 325 pax. Flying sardine cans they were! I did feel very proud working for BY at the time and it was always a nice sight seeing the lady Britannia greeting us en route to take us back to the UK   Fond memories

Maybe he was referring to the airport, which actually is in the middle of nowhere.

And they are bitching and moaning when they get out of the terminal and get to the car park and taxi's.

Hehe, no problem. I understand the airport is really not too great, so I guess it may as well be the middle of nowhere, it's just that resources (food etc.) really shouldn't have been too tricky to organise. Then again, provincial Russia is provincial Russia......

Yes, the passengers from the flight told lack of food was the main issue. They said in the paper that the ice cream retailer at the airport was very pleased they suddenly had 300 unexpected hungry customers, ice cream was sold for EUR 5 per portion
