Because both MS and AC are in Star Alliance, one could expect the MS flight will bear AC code-share.
Would have guessed MS return to LAX (via somewhere in Europe) and CAI-LAD before CAI-HRE.

No words yet about Washington , they used to serve Harare before but never Luanda . On a side note , According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, the number of travelers reaching Egypt from Canada increased 3.5% from the period between January and October 2012, compared to the same period in 2011, from 41,000 to 42,600.

CONGRATS to MS. This plan is a couple of years old. The Arab spring derailed it, but only temporarily, until now.

Wow, that's quite some capacity. 1388 seats/week.

I am not sure. They may choose to still codeshare via FRA, MUC or LHR as they do today with LH (FRA and MUC) and MS (LHR) since they will still get to fly the transatlantic segment on their own metal. Remains to be seen...

How many flights do ET have to Toronto ? Still 2 flights a week Via Rome ?

Quoting ETinCaribe (Reply 3):

I know , i wonder if they will be flying only thrice a week in the slower winter months . THY have 5 flights a week out of YYZ to IST in the summer .
So far no words about code sharing with AC .

When MS served YUL wasn't it a seasonal operation?

4 weekly?! That really is progress compared to the standard 3 weekly.

When did MS fly to YUL and with what equipment? I recall seeing some interesting aircraft at YUL over the past 10 years, but don't recall seeing MS. Have they been around in the Canadian market for a while?

When did MS fly to YUL

From 2001 to around 2009. When they started it was a tag-on twice a week from JFK, but later became nonstop YUL-CAI. I think it was year-round the first year but from then on I think it became a seasonal service. All the A.net photos of MS at YUL are between May and September except those dated 2001.

ADD-YYZ is probably a larger O&D market...

Kudos to them. I hope the current situation in Egypt doesn't get worse...

Now that MS is going to fly to YYZ red-eyes west-bound, any guess as MS would think of changing it schedule to NYC to red-eyes west-bound too and move its operations to Star Alliance pal UA hub EWR?

Don't read Star Alliance membership as meaning there will be any meaningful cooperation between airlines.

AC ignored TK in the YYZ market for a full 2-years, and only recently signed a codeshare. TK could not even sell connections on AC flights with preferential prorate fares until late last year.

Quoting DolphinAir747 (Reply 10):

Actually CAI is significantly larger local market from YYZ versus ADD.

However neither one is something I would describe as even being close to a big market. There are many larger unserved markets from Toronto including points in India, Sri Lanka, Iran, Lebanon, etc

Again, like AC, UA has really not much to do with MS.

They have an extremely narrow codeshare that covers only 4 cities in the US, a couple in Europe to Cairo.

As MS is outside the A++ JV with AC/LH Group there is not much incentive to send traffic on it.

I expect a major market will be connecting traffic to/from BEY. Ontario accounts for the largest proportion of the Lebanese community in Canada (about 40%) although when looking only at individual cities YUL has a larger community than YYZ.

That was really expected, specially since MS is flying to JFK and the only UA domestic flights MS could get code-share are those few to/from JFK.

AC also ignored IST for a while , and now after the great success of THY on the IST-YYZ route , AC is looking at launching their own service between the 2 cities ( 3 flights weekly ) ,

MS and AC were code-sharing flights between YYZ and CAI via LHR for quite sometime .

Agree , but MS is starting the route with 4 flights a week on board B77-300 ER , quite a capacity if you ask me .

Have UA and DL stopped their services to CAI ?

Yep, TK and MS already do very well out of the Lebanese market. A bit miffed that MEA is *still*
unable to secure authorisation to serve North America when countries like Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia
and Pakistan are able to do so. Still, atleast the Lebanese have lots of choices, even though they do
still need to make connections across Europe or the Levante

No, its more to do with strategic plans pre-dating 9/11, Lebanon can join the club too if they like, whats keeping it out?

What plan pre 9/11? Air Canada announced the launch of Montreal-Beirut flights in 2003 and the US
government urged the Canadian government to withdraw the rights 24 hours before the first flight
despite there being advanced booking for months ahead.

ME used to serve New York 3 x weekly but the rights were withdrawn in the 1980s after a Palestinian
woman drove a truck into the US embassy in Beirut.

What other plans were there in place?

The you are with us or against us threat was due to 9/11, US has strategic ties with these countries dating back to 1980s and earlier, not due to or post 9/11, dont you think US coudl have banned all these carriers from flying to their country but they didnt, must be some reason that Lebanon does not fit in at the moment that its being treated differently ever since.

Lebanon can get Boeings and US/Canada routes by playing into US hands as the other states are, join the club was meant to refer to that.

now back to topic.

There might be a minimal impact on ET for people connecting on to other African locations. The passenger will migrate to whoever is cheapest and has the best connections on to where they are going. I would think that MS will have an advantage for other Arab and south Mediterranean destinations over ET, but I doubt people would be flying to those locations anyways using ET.
