Tu-214 Status - No More Scheduled Services?

Fri Jan 18, 2013 12:00 pm

Dear All,

Following the Red Wings Tu-204 crash, it appears the last operator of scheduled Tu-214 services TransAero (UN) has removed its aircraft from service. A press release stated that UN wants to await the outcomes of the investigation over the Red Wings crash.

Does anyone have any insight if these will return to service? In contrast to the press release the current UN schedule says the Tu-214 operates to Norilsk.

Also, I thought UN still had 5 more Tu-214 on order, however I couldn't find any evidence if these orders were cancelled or are still valid? Does anyone know if there is any other opportunity to fly on the Tu-214?

Thanks for sharing any insights.
Regards,
Loran

No Transaero Tu-214s have flown since December 29. All other Tu-214s that are currently operational are flying for the Russian government (SLO Rossiya). So no other chance right now I guess unless you find a reason why you should be on one of their flights.

What about the Dalavia Tu-214 since that airlines stopped operation?
Are they stored or transfered to Russian government?

On a similar subject, what ever happened to the brand new Air China Cargo TU-204's? Did these planes ever enter service with anyone?

One is being converted into a freighter for KAPO Aviakompania at Kazan Borisoglebskoye, the other two are still stored in Khabarovsk.

No, two of them never left Russia, the other one is in Tianjin and I believe has never flown for Air China Cargo, it is now allocated to China Flight Test Establishment but I believe has not flown for them yet either.

Thanks for the info everyone. Hopefully I don't have to write this version off on my list of missing types

Does by chance someone know what the status of outstanding orders is, if any?
Are the UN ones still current?

Thanks,
Loran

Does this mean that Red Wings themselves are non-operational as I was under the impression that Tu-204s were the only type they had! Hope to see them back in the air again soon, they ain't bad planes! Also do Cubana not have a few?

Quoting EGPH (Reply 8):

The Tu-214 is basically a Tu-204-200. The Tu-214 is produced by KAPO in Kazan with a few modifications over the Tu-204, which is produced by Aviastar in Ulyanovsk.

There is still the Tu-204-100 around in larger numbers, whereas the -300 is only live with Vladivostok (5x airframes) and Air Koryo (1x airframe). The -300 is also in immediate danger, Vladivostok is retiring them by the end of the 2013 summer schedule so I have already planned a trip.

Cubana has three -100s but they are quite unreliable in their schedules, I was booked on CU311 routing CCS-HAV in October 2012 and it turned out to be a massively delayed Lithuanian A320 opb Avion Express   - Thank you very much, Cubana.

Wow...What a waste of brand new airframes...
