New American Oneworld Scheme?

Tue Jan 22, 2013 9:55 pm

So the new 'Mainline' livery is upon us, but what will happen to the oneworld scheme? I've been doing a little reading on the oneworld branding and come across this -

oneworld livery - A standard design has been agreed for oneworld livery aircraft.

This includes:

- A standard livery on a white fuselage (but with the possibility of retaining an unpainted (aluminium finish) fuselage at
operator’s option.
- “oneworld” in large letters to be featured, with the words “member of” and the oneworld orb, with placement
depending on design creative.
- The name of the operating airline, in smaller text, in a standard position.
- The operating airline’s standard tailfin. (In addition to the tailfin, the airline may also retain its own brand colour scheme
on the underbelly, wings and engines.)
Full specifications and artwork to be obtained from the oneworld Brand Manager.
All final livery to be approved by the oneworld Management Company.

With 'New American' going painted, will we see them keep with the old Aluminium aircraft, and just repaint the tail, rear fuselage section and new titles or can we expect something like this that I've knocked up?

Personally I don't think the Aluminium look will suit the new tail, but as per regs, they can keep with Aluminium finish should they so wish.

Nice rendering! Only thought is whether they'll go with "American" or "American Airlines" on the subtitle.

Personally, I think the new livery is great. I think the tail looks rather futuristic and not at all like a cheap Wal-Mart-style brand.

I would be beyond shocked if they did that. Part of the new branding is removing the old brand, Since the aluminum skin is a signature of the old brand and is found nowhere in the new brand, it should not be used. Its similar to if Southwest created a new special livery and used the brown tail instead of canyon blue.

Only way I see it happening is if they are in such a rush for getting the new brand on the planes that they do not do a full repaint and just decal the tail and new logo.

My guess is this option (Lets call it what it really is: The American Airlines Clause) will morph into the possibility of using the branding on a grey/silver fuselage. AA has the clout within the alliance to push it through.
