787 In The Southeast Today?

Sat Jan 26, 2013 10:20 pm

I have an SBS-3 and I noticed a strange item in my log for today .. N787BK - B788 - msn 34837. This is a Boeing 'dealertag' and the msn corresponds to JAL a/c JA827J. As all 787's are grounded, I found this rather strange.

My radar covers an approx 200nm range and is positioned west of Gainsville, GA. The hit was logged first at 08:33 EST and last at 11:20 EST today, Saturday Jan26. An aircraft coming from. for example the west coast to CHS will pass through my coverage area.

Any insight is appreciated.

That a/c was delivered in April of 2012 to JL. It was not the a/c involved in the BOS fire so this doesn't make much sense.

While its possible the FAA could issue a special ferry permit for Boeing to fly a/c between CHS and PAE, I'd think we would've heard about it or had some spotter shots taken.
