History Of Emirates On DXB To JNB

Sun Jan 27, 2013 4:33 am

Hello

I was just thinking back to when my family and I flew from Manchester to Johannesburg in 2003 - at the time we flew all sectors on the A330-200. Seems strange to think how much EK have expanded and added capacity in the last ten years (but that's another thread). Anyway, I got to thinking about the history of EK on the Dubai to Johannesburg route. When did it start? Equipment used? How did it grow over the years? Your thoughts/knowledge would be welcome.

Thanks

I am fairly certain that Emirates began JNB, along with NBO in 1995. Not certain of the exact routing, nor of the particular equipment used.
Cheers.

I am not quite sure when it started but I flew JNBDXBHAHJNB (Moroni Comores) in August 1999. This was on a A310. About six months later they stopped the HAH stop and all flights went non stop. Went out in J and back in F . Vintage Dom for breakast is great.

Quoting cv990coronado (Reply 2):

Nice. Do you guys only get 77Ws from EK now? I'm booking a flight for Nov (probably will get around to it sometime next month), but I'm curious to see if the 773 or 77W is the only choice there...

@ Darksnowynight Last year we had 2 x 77W and 1 x 380. Now it's 3 X 77W as far as I know we have never had the 773. I think it would have problems with JNB's height (5700 ft) and the temperature. I don't think I have seen a 773 of any airline here only 77W's and 772ER's .

Yes, at the beginning with an A310-300 flying Dubai-Moroni-Johannesburg.

When EK will launch TNR by the way?
