My money is on Ryan International Airlines. They just ceased operations on January 11.

They want to operate 734s correct? Well my guess would be Xtra then.

Nah, if it's 734s, then it must be Alaska!

With the large sum of $500,000 I am guessing that it might be, well AA and they would assume its entire debt. Other wise I would guess that it might not be any major carrier. I just had a thought, they might be purchasing AA's new livery which I am sure would be over paying in some minds.

What about Sky King? Aren't they bankrupt? (And don't they have 732s?    )

I'm thinking Vision Airlines, as they have become a bare-bones operation and currently operate the 734.

That's a possibility, but they haven't had the 737 in their fleet in a number of years and other than some seasonal leases of 734s and 738s, they never operated anything other than the 732. It makes more sense to acquire an airline that already operates the a/c type you wish to use since they already have all of the operational elements in place for the type.

Who owns the USA3000 certificate and why wouldn't just purchasing that be the best option?

$500,000 wont help getting either one plus this would not fit into PEOPLExpress' brand.

The 734 might have been their original plan, but if they have to buy another airline to get a certificate, they may not limit themselves only to a 734-operating airline.

Maybe they will buy 9E from DL. That is about all it is worth. haha.

Seirously, could they be buying small charter company? Say Great Lakes or some such?

Or how about everyone's favorite deduct airline: All South or Skybus?

Ryan should have all the historical data to add the fleet type since they had at one point.

The USA3000 certificate has been surrendered and no longer valid.

Purchasing Great Lakes would require a massive re-write of their ops spec and creation of manuals to operate the 734. Adding a new fleet type to a 121 certificate is not a quick and easy task. Its normally a 6-9 month undertaking.

As a greater explanation, the certificates of defunct carriers generally do not last long as they become dormant if not used. In order to keep it, generally the positions defined in 14 CFR 119.65 must be filled and at least one aircraft remain on their ops spec. If there is an intent to either re-start operations or an effort to sell the certificate, some of the necessary positions have been waived at the discretion of the FSDO that oversees that certificate.

As with USA3000, the Skybus certificate is long gone. There is a possibility the estate of Ryan International may be trying to sell its certificate since it was very recently still in use.
35 years of American Trans Air/ATA Airlines, 1973-2008. A great little airline that will not be soon forgotten.

How about if PeoplExpress buys Frontier? Then we can experience deja vu. For those who forgot or never knew, the original PE bought FL back in the 1980s.

All the 732's are gone, however, a Skyking mechanic did say they had new investors coming in (take it with a grain of salt)...right now, SkyKing only has 737-400's

All indications point to Xtra Airways.

Xtra had a contract to provide charter services for Cal Jet air to Mazatlan from various US Cities that was supposed to run into April sometime. However that has been suspended and will only operate until the first week of Feb.
