I must say, it's really cool having Internet. It took a while for it to work, but it works now and good. It will be complimentary until March 27, 2013 to all passengers.

Great thread and great pictures in the linked page.

And it looks like American is ordering 5 more of the 773's - that is great news.

Just got off it. I have pics of the flight - what a marvelous time! The inflight wifi didn't work for most people, though - that was the only downer.

We got one hell of a water salute and sendoff from the entire DFW ramp crew, but in GRU they had one wimpy half-salute that wasn't powerful enough to even get over the wing.

I flew into DFW yesterday and saw the 77W at D23. Unfortunately D23 isn't a good gate for viewing from within given the adjacent Admirals Club, but it was indeed cool. Lots of food was beside the door to the jetway and there was a couple dozen folks on the ramp at various times within the 30 minutes I stood by D23. Numerous AA employees snapped shots of the 77W and so forth.

...and...

I must say it did look better in person.

It was AMAZING. The best interior and the best lie-flat seat out there.

From the seatmap, that is the first row of the mini cabin. Interestingly enough, that cabin has the same config (1-2-1 x 2) as the first class cabin.

Sounds like you had a great flight.

I heard it's the Panasonic Ku-ba Wi-Fi system.

Yesterday and today, on board both flights, we had Panasonic guys running around the aircraft trying to solve the issue. It came and went, but was never stable!

I'm kind of disappointed that they didn't put anything on the bottom of the plane like Emirates and some others have done. The elongated nature of the new logo would let it fit fairly well.

I had understood that airlines were going with the Panasonic Avionics system because it had a proven track record.

It seems kind of odd to me that it didn't work (coincidentally) on the maiden voyage or return.

On the other hand, I am glad I was not a Panasonic engineer on that flight.

With them having now freed a 772, they could send it into BSB. Well, of course they won't, but there is a decent market here for them to deploy, at least seasonally, something better than a 752 with no IFE for the MIA route. Also, was this just a maiden voyage choice, or has GRU become the first official 77W destination?

Brazil is the number 1 market for AA in revenue. It was not a surprise that GRU was chosen as the first destination for the 77W.

I wanted to add to my post but it was too late to edit...

After the DFW GRU route, it will reportedly be DFW LHR and JFK LHR.

I read somewhere that JFK GRU might eventually get the new airplane as well but I don't recall where and I couldn't find it when searching.

That would make perfect sense, seeing TAM deploys their 77W on the route. AA would be a good choice for the F/J passengers, due to capacity.

Right now 7LA and 7LB are alternating duties on the DFW-GRU flights every other day. 7LC is at DFW undergoing acceptance check, but the operation won't really need it until the MAR02 start up of DFW-LHR service. 7LD should be in service by then as well and will enable the start of the JFK-LHR service MAR15.

JFK-GRU will be upgauged to 77W with the 2 frames from DFW-GRU, bot only the redeye (AA950/951). The daylight will continue to be operated by 772 and reduced to weekends only (off-peak season)
DFW-GRU will be downgauged to 772.

Among other reasons, there's no cargo to BSB. The 752 fits the market and as said above, next step would be the 763. Much more expected to see the 772 assuming one route to GIG as last year : they are longer, they have cargo and increased premium market (probably today the "largest" AA international 763 destination with 4 daily flights)

Sorry if i was not so clear.
DFW-GRU nowadays operated with 77W (AA962/963) will be downgauged to 772 effective March 1st 2013 (DFW-GRU) and of course, March 2nd 2013 GRU-DFW.
Will remain as a daily service.
* The second (3x weekly DFW-GRU) service is seasonal.

JFK-GRU nowadays operated with 772 (AA951) will be upgauged to 77W effective March 1st 2013. First upgauged AA950 departs GRU on March 2nd.
* The daylight service will continue to be operated by B772

No worries - thanks.

So the only 77W service out of DFW will be DFW-LHR I guess while JFK will have JFK LHR and JFK GRU.

Yes. For the moment, after the inaugural route DFW-GRU is switched back to a 772, only JFK and GRU will see the 77W. GRU from JFK, and LHR from JFK (2 daily), DFW (2 daily) and LAX.
