Boliviana (BoA) Applies For US Service

Fri Feb 01, 2013 5:47 pm

Boliviana de Aviación dba BoA has applied with the DOT for a foreign air carrier permit and route authorities.

BoA which was established in 2007 as the flag carrier of Bolivia seeks to connect Bolivia with the US effective May 2013.

BoA initially seeks authority to commence daily service between Santa Cruz Bolivia and Miami via Panama City using Boeing 737-300 equipment.
BoA say it will also seeks to connect Santa Cruz with Washington DC via intermediate points at later stage.

The BofA service to the US would replace services previously operated by LAB and Aerosur.

Interesting. Just flew on BoA last week from VVI-CBB and back, I don't see how they will compete with Copa on the route to PTY unless they make some changes in on board, very very old interiors at a minimum. Some Bolivians have told me BoA doesn't have the best on-time performance either although both my flights were perfect. I wish them well.

VVI-PTY is screaming for extra seat capacity, but the demand doesn't come from PTY-VVI O/D but from PTY CM hub.
Back in the days, Lloyd Aero Boliviano used PTY as a stop en-route to MIA, perhaps Boliviana wants to retake the old L.A.B. route, but the B737-300 sure is an inferior product than CM and the traffic it could get between PTY and MIA may be those who don't want to pay to fly NK between FLL and PTY.
I'd think Boliviana may operate IAD via PTY too and it may be possible that flights from PTY to VVI could operate via LPB.
By the way, given the Bolivia - U.S. market, no point of Boliviana flying to FLL and BWI instead of MIA and IAD, operational expenses may be much less but the Bolivian passengers wouldn't like FLL and BWI.
I'm not on CM's payroll.

It was used on the MEX run too.

Boliviana flies A330 or 767 to Madrid, why not use wide body planes to Miami nonstop from Santa Cruz ? A 737 from Bolivia to Miami seems so 1980's.

They only have one A330 which they are wet leasing from HiFly, it is too busy with the Madrid route.

Haven't checked Boliviana MAD schedule, but one A330 could fly VVI-MAD-VVI red-eyes both ways thrice weekly and VVI-MIA-VVI daytime 4 times per week.
That way VVI-PTY-MIA-PTY-VVI could be flown w/B737-300 only 3 times per week.

This is good news. I flew the old Lloyd Aero Boliviano in 1990 Miama-Caracas, Manaus, La Paz and then onto Cochabamba on an vintage 727. The return was Cochambaba, Santa Cruz, Panamá, Miami. I also flew them from Coachabama to La Paz and then onto Cuzco, Perú.

I flew them in 1998, MIA-MAO-VVI on an A310-300. I was in C and the service was horrendous. I flew them later on VVI-GRU on a 727 in C again and the service was excellent. I don´t get it.

That means: VVI-PTY-MIA-PTY-VVI 7x weekly with 733.
I'm not sure if all the way could be possible using one only 733.

In terms of weekly frequencies, CM PTY-VVI is 11x weekly nowadays.

Boliviana de Aviacion must face the triangular AA MIA-LPB-VVI-MIA 7x weekly with 757.
In the past, American Airlines added an extra 757 operating the dedicated sector called AA MIA-VVI.

Very tight B737-300 utilisation for one aircraft, but it might be done.
