My question is why? What is the more popular rumor HA being bought by (insert airline name here) or AS being bought by (insert airline name here)

Because United people would totally know what Delta and Hawaiian are about to do.

Maybe the combined carrier will finally convince Boeing to restart the 757 production line so they can buy ten more planes.

Why would you post a rumor about Delta when the information came from a person at United who probably was a flight attendant. One thing I know for sure is most United employees are not concerned with whats going on at Delta because there is still a lot of work to be done here at United.

After reading stuff like this I wonder how monotonous a job being a FA can be if this is the type of thing they resort to talking about. They must do it simply for their own amusement, and not to be serious.

This has been a rumor for a looooong time. While DL and HA have fleet commonality (soon to be 100% with the arrival of the 717s for DL) there is no way I see this happening.

However it is a good concept- have a mainliner with a hub at HNL to serve the farthest reaches of the Pacific. But alas HA is doing one stand-up job

They could be the launch customer for the 727-9MAX. Perfect aircraft for long, thin routes to the mainland or South Pacific islands, avoiding those pesky ETOPS restrictions.

Seriously, the IL-62 needs some competition in the 180 passenger, long-range, narrow body, 3-or-4-engine, T-tail category. It's an underserved market. And how cool would a stretched 727 look with scimitar winglets, MAX-sized engines and the HA livery? I need to see a mock-up of this.

Well, I just got off the phone with Richard Anderson. He personally told me that these rumors are true, he said he wants to turn HNL into the "ATL" of the PAO (Pacific Ocean, he said it not me) He also sent me the new company logo, he really wants this merger to be equal and fair.

He said he will get around to sending me the new livery later.

Unlike AS, there is really no conceivable reason why DL would want to buy HA. They already fly the prime HNL-Japan and HNL-West Coast routes themselves, and I doubt they really want to regain stuff they recently cut like HNL-SAN/PDX, let alone the likes of HNL-SMF/PPG/MNL, lol. About the only thing they'd probably want would be HNL-HND and maybe HNL-JFK...

I would be saddened to see HA go out in a merger. It is and has been hard to still accept Aloha being gone. HA has done everything right, and continues to be an excellent carrier. My plans to visit Hawaii next year will be booked exclusively on HA.

He said he will get around to sending me the new livery later.

Thank you for contacting Mr. Anderson on behalf of all of us, and getting these very important questions answered.
I was wondering, however, if you also brought up the following sensitive issues, and if so, what Mr. Anderson's answers may have been?:

*Will the inter-Hawaiian fleet get lie-flat seats in first class?
*Will there be PTV at every seat on the inter-Hawaiian fleet?

*Does he think that there will be any problems asking the DOT to transfer the HNL-HND route over to HND-HNL? Or will the combined DL/HA be forced to stay on HNL-HND?

*Since DL is no longer permitted to fly LAX-LHR, and MIA-LHR, will DL be using the majority of their new slots they are getting from Virgin Atlantic to start a HNL-LHR shuttle?

*Did he mention what color the uniforms will be?
*If the red dresses for flight attendants stay, will they be in plus sizes too?

*Which hub will have to be shut down to support the extra HNL flying, MEM or CVG?
*Will there be a new non-stop HNL-MIA to support DL's new massive MIA hub (although not to connect to MIA-LHR, as they are not permitted to fly that route)?

*How many more years will the DC-9 have to keep flying to support this new expanded route system?

*Will this finally force DL to buy the 747-8 or the A380?
*If so, will those also have lie flats?
*Or PTVs?
*Or just coloring books with crayons in order to pass the time away?

If you could post any answers to these extremely pressing issues that Mr. Anderson might have given you, I'd appreciate it.

Quoting ocracoke (Reply 29):

Well, I hate to reveal all the secrets in one post......but why not.

First of like I said in pervious posts, Delta and Hawaiian are going to be merging. This will hopefully be done by 2015. On February 29th, 2016 People's Express will be buying out the merged airline. Now, at this time we are unsure of what brand they are going to use. But extensive data research will be done.

Of course their will be lie-flat seats in domestic first class on the inner Hawaiian flights. Which will now be operated by the A380/748i. These will be billed as some of the most expensive A380s/748is; with full walk up bars, and a gift shop. These will be exclusive to inner-Hawaiian flights. Some may ask why they are going to be operating these flights with such big planes and Mr. Anderson said "because it looks cool"

As for the DOT; Anderson is unsure of what will occur there.

The HNL-LHR will become the new long-haul route for DL. They are going to drop ATL/BOS/MSP/DTW/JFK and relocate all the slots to this route. Because of the frequency this route will be operated by the brand new 737-900ERS. The routing will go lik this "HNL-YVR-YYZ-KEF-LHR"

New Uniforms will be made out of 24 leaf gold, and they will weigh 25 pounds. And no, there is no discussion for plus size uniforms. He wants to make DL into a Pan Am sort of, and create iconic stewardesses again.

As for which hub will be shut down for the new HNL flying, it won't be MEM or CVG. Surprise it will be ATL. Anderson said the Southern Market is too messy anyways. I can't reveal much, but HNL is the new ATL.

The MIA hub will come later, once AA files for Chapter 7 which should be in the next few weeks.

And yes; there will be a new order for DL on the 747-8I project and A380. 100 of each, with options for 300 more. Yes they will have lie-flats; but only on inner-Hawaiian flights, PTVS a must, and coloring books will be available when you book your flight. They have to be requested by the customer.

And he understands the pressing issue of getting all these problems out ASAP.

Ha! The only way this is happening is if DL is pissed at HA for kicking them in the balls over the Japan slot a couple of years back.

Can't see this happening anytime soon. But this is airlinerrumors.net, so maybe it will show up next week again.

I think Delta will buy Hawaiian, and the naming rights to Aloha Airlines just so the entire airline be renamed "Alohawaiian-Delta"

->The 732's that were mothballed will come back so that the 717's can be re-deployed in order to re-start the DFW hub.

->Meanwhile, instead of wasting valuable A330 capacity, any and ALL DC-8's and DC-10's will return to supplement the new/combined and re-focused inter-island D95/732 fleet.

->The newly freed A330's will fly valuable domestic routes, such as BOS-NYC, SFO-LAX and of course SLC-MCI.

->The 732's will receive the Heath-Tecna Project Amber pivot-bin interior in order to bring the product line into standards with the best short-haul carriers. Half will get PTV's for LIH-ITO and the rest will get drop-down TV's for those looooooooooooooong HNL-MKK runs.

Now that you mention it, that is actually a pretty good idea. SInce there wont be enough planes even after ATL/CVG/MEM are shut down to support this new adventure, DL can go and buy up the DC-8 cargo planes that were just parked in the desert, buy back the former DL 747-100 from (?) (Flying Tigers?), and just until things get settled down, use the 767-200, the DC-3, and the TravelAir at the museum as a stop-gap measure to help with some of the new routes to be put into place.

As for what maintenance facility is big enough to take care of these sudden new rounds of A, B, C, D, E, F, and G checks, I would recommend that it be FWA.

All of this talk of what a merged HA and DL will look like is pointless. After Doug Parker seamlessly merges US with AA, he will buy HA and keep the headquarters in Tempe. All planes will wear the current US livery and DL will buy the MIA and DFW hubs.

The sad part of this thread is that someone (and it ALWAYS happens) will come in, to the middle of it without reading what came before and think that it is entirely serious, especially reply # 30. From there, it will snowball, getting larger and larger and be spread to other forums until it turns into a "bash DL" thread, blaming DL for being so stupid as to want to merge with HA.

Though I did overhear a WN ground agent the other week tell another agent, that apparently her next door neighbor who has a cousin who is married to a guy whose wife knows someone who cleans the B6 headquarters that B6 was definitely buying VX so it must be true....

This rumor pops up every three months. Until there's an official press release I'm taking all of it to be trolling.

Its obvious really: On the same day, HA will join OneWorld and AS will join Star Alliance. AS and DL will announce a merger, also taking over the Ex-HP pilot group from US. In a surprising last minute twist, the AS and DL deal falls through, DL merges with HA, AS also merges with HA, and the HP pilots go to UA. US minus HP merges with AA, and the new airline orders another few hundred planes.

Not to be outdone, DL/HA/AS announces the new largest aircraft order in history consisting of 150 727-MAX9s, 60 727-MAX8s, 150 A380s to be hubbed in HNL and SEA, 30 757s (10 new, causing Boeing to reopen the line), 80 767s with GEnx engines, and of course 20 DC-9s, 40 MD-80/90s, and 40 717s.

Emirates, mad at the fact that they are now not quite the most pointless huge A380 operator, orders 61 more A380s (of the A380-900 model) and 92 Boeing 797-BWBs.

And UA has a lot of confused pilots, generating more rumors.

You guys are funny. Problem is....this makes A LOT of sense

Hawaiian, while loved, is not an overly profitable airline and their long haul business product is well, sorry, poor. Their market cap is a measly $289M. Double that and stockholders are thrilled. Oh yeah and Hawaiian has $433M in cash. Delta could almost buy Hawaiian with Hawaiian's cash. $500M-$600M for instant expansion of your widebody fleet and near term access to additional widebodies is probably worth the price of admission. Delta could also cut capacity on the competitive long haul routes and probably make back this investment in a year or so. Not to mention, they can create quite the hub at HNL and gain more access to Australia, which they really don't have the planes to serve with now.

Yes, this totally makes sense. Now, will it happen....discuss?

Quoting superdash (Reply 48):

The only problem I see with this is; getting it past the Anti-Trust board. The way you phrase it makes perfect sense. But if you would merge DL and HA then there will only be two US carriers with extensive Asian networks. AA does have an Asian network, but really it's not that big.

There is a possibility that it would get through; but I feel like it would be an uphill battle.
