Swiss & Star Alliance Logojets

Tue Feb 05, 2013 10:33 pm

So, it seems that all of the current members of the Star Alliance have at least one aircraft painted in the Star Alliance livery.

SWISS however does not & hasn't for years now since A330-200 HB-IQR left the fleet. Is there any reason for this?
Even recently joined airlines ZH & TA already have several aircraft painted already.

I know SWISS European have an ARJ100 painted in Star Alliance livery but find it strange why SWISS itself doesn't.

Not really helping to solve the mystery, but Swiss European has two aircraft in Star Alliance livery, HB-IYU and HB-IYV. Also one or two of the Contact Air aircraft which were flying for Swiss had this livery, so maybe that was considered enough in terms of numbers and since they folded, no other aircraft were in heavy maintenance requiring repainting?

Not sure if this is still current but I recall reading somewhere that by joining Star Alliance an airline committs to painting 3% or so of their seat capacity in the Star Alliance livery.

Not sure if this requirement is met with two RJ-100s.

I remember reading something along the same lines, but also that one airplane from each subfleet (in LX case A330/340 and A32x) shall be painted in Alliance livery.
Can somebody confirm this?

LX entered Star Alliance in 2006. I'm sure some of the aircraft have undergone a D-Check, certainly a couple of C-Checks which allow time for repaint.

I'm curious if this requirement applies to the individual carrier or if aircraft from LH and Austrian also count towards a total of 3% for the entire LH group?

This is not correct. For example, UA does not have all fleet types in *A livery. It may be focused on international segments, because UA has 737, 747, 757, 767 & 777.

pmUA only had 747, 777 and 767 in *A livery.
pmCO painted a 757 (international), 737, 767 and 777 in *A livery.
