SWA Plans Big Announcement

Fri Feb 08, 2013 12:03 am

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/n...west-airlines-plans-party-big.html

Quote:
Southwest Airlines is planning to celebrate its first year of flying from Atlanta with a big announcement.
On Feb. 12, Dallas-based Southwest Airlines Inc. (NYSE: LUV) plans to hold an event at the AirTran Corporate Center in College Park. A big announcement is anticipated that will further the airline’s presence in Atlanta.

Let the guessing begin!

Complete system-wide code-share?
The plural of Airbus is Airbuses. Airbii is not a word, and doesn't even make sense.
There is no 787-800, nor 787-900 or 747-800. It's 787-8, 787-9, and 747-8.
A321neoLR is also unnecessary. It's simply A321LR.

They have a schedule for that already so I doubt it, I also think it will be a more Atlanta/Georgia based announcement.

Perhaps some type of employment announcement. Looking forward to it, in any case.

Why announce Hawaii in ATL. And why does everyone think HI is even being considered.

A party? A big announcement? Something to celebrate a year in Atlanta?

I am guessing the introduction of "ValuJet One."

Sorry... I mean "Georgia One."

The just rolled out a big PR push here in MIlwaukee, including multiple market-specific commercials, promotions, etc.

The situation in ATL is decidedly different, but a big marketing push in ATL makes sense too, even if it is a slightly different focus than Milwaukee.

There are major operational work groups whos intetgrations been small at best and who do not feel anything of the luvculture. Perhaps this announcement will address that a bit?

You are all wrong. This is Atlanta. The big announcement is that his highness/greatness/Great Leader the "honorable great" ATL Mayor Mohammed Kasim Reed will have his likeness painted onto the tail of a WN plane to represent Georgia. He has already replaced photos of President Carter in the interteminal trains and his likeness can now be seen from every car. His posters can be seen while walking through each terminal and he can also be heard on the PA announcements at every terminal. A trip through the ATL airport reminds me of the hero worship that happens in North Korea with their great leader except it happens with the Great Leader of Atlanta. What is confusing to us that are here is that the Great Leader of Atlanta and Fulton county jurisdiction stops at Taxiway B in the North. The terminals and all Southern runways as well all terminal and hangers are in Clayton County. Strange thing is with all the windfall from ATL the Clayton schools were able to lose their accredidation. 1st school district since the 1960's to accomplish this but way to go honorable people, but this how they roll here in Georgia. Whatever great announcement from WN/ATL will be cloaked in you know what!?!?!?!

If I went with my gut, I would say Georgia One roll out.

Perhaps a full system wide codeshare announcement. Even though they already did the soft launch, they didn't do a big public announcement with it.

The vast majority of pilots and f/as I've spoken to - both those who have transitioned and those who are still FL - seem pretty satisfied. I had a MCO crew this morning that was two thirds PMFL (both very senior; I think one had flown for J7 and one was legacy Airways), and both of the PMFL f/as told me they were surprised by how much they had embraced WN, how much WN had embraced them and how little they missed FL. I hear that sentiment a lot. Somebody asked if our 733 had Wifi, and the answer, which referenced the age of the aircraft, sounded like it came from a seasoned WN veteran. Drink orders were taken during our ground delay in MDW, just like veteran WN crews do.

It's almost impossible to tell a PMFL crew member from the service he or she provides.

ATL will be a pilot base only at first. No F/A base yet.
To me, the 11th would seem a more likely date for a big ATL announcement, though.

Maybe the "Big Announcement" will be Southwest starting to participate in PreCheck.

I had the exact same experience a few months ago with a PMFL FA who just had started with WN. She was based in MCO (IIRC) and was doing one of her first west coast overnights in TUS. Her excitement and enthusiasm was contagious. The other two PMWN FAs were great and the trip was an all around enjoyable one (especially when I gave her some DL Biscoff cookies and Jelly Bellies).
