Massive Fail - DEL Airport No Radar For 45min

Sat Feb 09, 2013 12:40 pm

In a massive fail the electricians at DEL accidentally unplugged the radar system causing radar screens to go blank with reboot taking 45 minutes to get restore:

Standby power taking over in seconds is not an option, you need a large UPS between the generator and the Radar and computer equipment to hold power while the Generator power stabilises in the event of a chaos like this.

Then why did the radar computer systems take 45 minutes to recover?

That's a different matter.....power outages are an everyday affair, but the aiports are on a different grid altogether......they're not supposed to lose power like that.....as HAWK21M said above, wait for the true story to come out......

We may be lied to but we are told our radar screens will reboot in 6 seconds with our generators that take 45 seconds to fire= 51 seconds.

How can they have every Dell tech support person within minutes and it take that long to get a TV back on?

ILS does not use radar, so if it did get knocked out, it means the same guy accidentally kicked the plug on that too.

I'm confused as to how you accidentally unplug the radar system. That's like pushing a button labeled "self destruct" just to see what happens. Generators and a system reboot should take less than 1min. Anything longer and you might as well pull out the shrimp boats.
