AA/US Merger Impact: FFP

Thu Feb 14, 2013 3:32 am

Okay, once done deal, as it looks like it will be, the question I have:

Which program will stay in place? I assume AAdvantage.

How early can I start flying US Airways and allow mileage to be credited to AAdvantage?

I hope they keep US' policy on fuel surcharges. The main reason I do not collect AA miles is because of the fuel surcharges they charge on BA award tickets. For what they cost, I might as well just buy a ticket and earn some more miles! US (and most other US carriers) do not charge fuel surcharges which is much friendlier to my wallet.

It's been widely reported that this will be the case. For your other questions, the merger hasn't even been formally announced yet. Be patient.

Hallelujah! The fuel surcharge is less-known diabolical feature feature of BA's EC program. It is an outrageous surcharge and pretty well puts the kibosh on any Y award travel. Its also much harder to deal with the gimlet-eyed EC team when trying to get credit for older miles. I do hope AA goes with US' FF program, but it is unlikely given the AA/BA transatlantic alliance.

Well I certainly hope award levels stay the same as they are in the AAdvantage program! 325,000 miles (recently reduced from 350,000) for a "Peak" business class seat RT to Europe .... Compared to 200.000 miles for an AAdvantage AAnytime award and 250,000 miles for an AAdvantage AAnytime First Award!

WTH ???!!!
