I flew out of LAX a few days ago notice three parked Air Tahiti Nui A340-300 parked over at Imperial Terminal.
Quoting AF Cabin Crew (Reply 3):
Yes they have "only" 5 but a study showed they only need 3.5 planes to do all their work... So they are trying to offload 1 plane from the fleet...

Cutting lines to JFK, KIX, and SYD a few years ago has left TN with too many planes.
Quoting mercure1 (Reply 6):
TN schedule has been trimmed. For current schedule 3 frames sufficient.
Quoting JAGflyer (Reply 9):
Why did they cut JFK? You'd think they would be able to fill the planes several times weekly with tourists/vacation passengers. NZ does very well flying to the Cook Islands strictly because it's a high-end vacation destination!!

If anyone wants a A340 please send proposal.
Let me find out how many beer cans can be made from an A-343 first, then I'll think about it.

Is there a reason why TN doesn't try PPT-HNL and PPT-SFO.?
Quoting B777A340Fan (Reply 14):
Why not add other flights? I can see SIN, PEK, SFO being strong contenders.
Quoting Polot (Reply 12):
The Cook Islands are also about 4-5 hours away from New Zealand (and usually operated with an A320). Not ~12 hours away on a 300 seat jet.

Would TN have benefited from getting 777s vs A340s?
Quoting vikkyvik (Reply 8):
In my recent experience, there are always Tahiti Nui A340s parked over there. Sometimes 1, sometimes 2. Can't say I've seen 3 of them at one time, but.....
