AA's First A319 - Has Production Started?

Sun Feb 17, 2013 9:15 pm

Looking at our delivery schedule the first of the A319's is due 1H/Jul2013. Just wondering if production has begun in any form for this aircraft? The delivery schedule in the ops website does not specify when production on airframes begin.

AA's First A319 - Has Production Started?

Sun Feb 17, 2013 9:19 pm

Well it's February, so unless there's been a delay or deferral, yes, production would have begun a little while back...

AA's First A319 - Has Production Started?

Sun Feb 17, 2013 9:22 pm

AA is going to take the A319-100 sharklet test frame later this year and that one has already been built, but I am guessing it will not be the first AA A319-100 delivery.

AA's First A319 - Has Production Started?

Sun Feb 17, 2013 9:25 pm

1 has been built already. AA will take the A319 sharklet test aircraft built in 2012. MSN 5327.

The other 15 A319's ordered start with MSN 5678 (to be delivered in July). No idea on actual production of these aircraft. No idea whether 5327 will be delivered before 5678.

Current AA order 16x A319 and 115x A321's btw (total 131). Likely many more A321's will be firmed as A319's.

AA's First A319 - Has Production Started?

I thought I read someplace that AA had planned 130xA139 and 130xA321... Was it modified or did I read something else?

It was 130 A32xOEO and 130x A32xNEO, convertible to any A320 family member.

Where did the extra one come from? AA's last quarterly filing shows 130 A32x classics on order.

130 total non-neo (mix 319 and 321). Upped by 1 to 131 now.

Also 130 planned neo's.

So total 260 originally. Now 261.

My source, areotransport, shows it as 131 total. The additional 1 was added ~ 6 mos ago.

Is it safe to assume that In another 2-3 months we should figure out what routes the first A319s will be flying?

And those are only the ones AA ordered on its own in the middle of 2011.
Add to that the ex-US A32x, the Airbus narrow body fleet will be huge.

To be fair, they have 93, already built, that they will acquire soon

In all seriousness, would it be a better idea for AA to convert some of their later A319 deliveries to A321/320 orders, since they only ordered 11, and will acquire a large number in the merger with US? (assuming the merger goes through) I can't imagine that an additional 11 frames will make that much of a difference. Or are the newer 319's more capable than the ones US already has?

Airbus is currently on around the MSN 5550 area for SA aircraft. Do you have a list of MSN's for AA?

16x A319 MSN's: 5327, 5678, 5698, 5704, 5745, 5753, 5761, 5781, 5786, 5788, 5789, 5798, 5810, 5827, 5842, 5902
6x A321 MSN's: 5838, 5876, 5890, 5895, 5899, 5939

Only 6 A321 MSN's identified so far.

The remaining 109 aircraft are nominally booked as A321. Firmed up as A319 or A321 as MSN's progressively assigned.

The most recent report I can find of a spotters tour round XFW (about 2 weeks ago) gave:

Highest MSN complete aircraft: #5523
Highest MSN main and rear fuselage: #5591
Highest MSN rear fuselage: #5598

So it will be a little while longer before #5678 appears on the production line

Maybe a baker's dozen kind of deal... Airbus figured they wouldn't really be able to use it past the sharklet testing procedures, so they tossed it in with the other 130 OEOs?

6x A321 MSN's: 5838, 5876, 5890, 5895, 5899, 5939

So who are they leasing these from, is it direct from Airbus who will sell them on like the SIA A330 or from existing leasors orders?

According to a previous poster MSN#5327 is to go to AA. LINK TO MSN#5327 : http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...0D4038BEFCC943D65&selectedIndex=12

Are there renderings of them with the new livery? All of the ones I can find have the Vignelli livery.

Yes, AA/US will take a lot of new Airbus deliveries. But the schedule and blend are TBD.

There will be future joint press releases from Doug Parker of AA and Airbus. Those are the announcements to look for. The existing US and AA deals will be blended and renegotiated, favorably to all.

What is US scheduled to take this year? I know some A332s are due midyear, but I'm less sure what narrowbodies they have lined up after taking a dozen or so A321-200s last year.
