Air India Pilot Makes Rap Vide - Gets Into Trouble

Tue Feb 19, 2013 6:09 am

This is an Air India F/O rapping, and he is apparently in trouble, story below - slightly NSFW language (headphones recommended). Can't say much for the quality of the music, but strangely sympathise with his frustration. The fact that he is a pilot is confirmed - YouTube link.

F.O. Shakur can't rap, so I cannot fathom what possibly could have inspired him to put up a video of himself... The ostinato wasn't bad though.

I do sympathize with his plight, as the 787 grounding isn't likely to finish anytime soon and every day he isn't flying, his salary drops.

I'm no judge of rap, so I can't really say if he can rap or not, but it seemed rappish to me and I thought it was quite good. Pity about the bad language, but I can understand his frustration; AI has been on a downward spiral for quite a long time, which must be very bad for aircrew morale. Not being paid for five months can't help either.

Is he actually a 787 pilot?

What is an NoC anyway?

No-Objection certificate - basically something you need from your current employer if you apply for a new job elsewhere. AI management has been slow to give these out as pilots move to Indigo by the dozen. Kingfisher used the non-issuance of NoC's as a way of holding on to pilots - but later the pilots quits any which way; but they either lose access to their dues from the airline (Kingfisher) or have to sit out of work for a specified period of time.

I think his rap was OK. His day job isn't working out for him ATM. Having fun rapping is better than sitting around doing nothing. Wearing a mask might have been a good idea, though.
Just accept that some days, you're the pigeon, and other days the statue

Big danglers on this guy for sticking his neck way out. The rap could have been tighter but you can't doubt his cojones. If enough people were willing to step up, maybe some things would change at AI.
What the...?

I also sympathize for the guy. Sure, that isn't the best rap you'll ever see, but that isn't the point.

but wow - does AI not train its people on the expectations for using social media? He's in uniform, he's not hiding who he is, he says who he works for, he criticizes his management, union leaders and coworkers... how do you think you won't get in some trouble?

He deserves whatever reprimand he gets. You don't go wearing your uniform and talk bad about your employer on Youtube and think they will just accept it.

Companies can only inform employees about the policies and expectations......they can't be held responsible for the actions of their employees......if this guy stepped out of line, he gets what he deserves.....

I think it's the right way for him to handle his emotions and feelings. And that is one part/aspect of rap...

BUT, this guy seems pretty young, isn't it. So this rap video might affect his career (at least in India). Which employer/airline will hire such a "trouble maker"?

Why is everyone so quick to judge him? Everyday on this board Air India get ripped a new one for the stupid decisions it makes and this guy shows its felt by its employee's to. I am glad an employee has the balls to say what he thinks. More people should say what they think rather than being yes men.

Whatever AI may do, as an employee you cannot wear the uniform provided to you and do something like this......it's completely against any rules or ethics of employment.....

In what world did this guy think that posting a video of himself performing a rap full of foul language against his employer would be a good plan?

Had he created the video and just kept it for his AI colleagues to view, then it would have been fine. I say that because those who work for AI at least can agree/disagree about the FO's actions. Once it becomes public, not only does it make AI look bad (which I'm not a fan of, but this goes for any airline/corporation/company) it makes the presenter look bad for not upholding the professionalism that uniform demands.

Perhaps because:

He chose to share this unfortunate video with the world.
He openly uses his uniform and other work-related effects in it.
The video is full of foul, highly unprofessional language.
He does nothing but slate his employer in the video.
Anyone with even half a brain knows that this will likely get you fired.
This is a wholly unprofessional way to resolve work issues.
He can't rap to save his life.

To more directly answer the question about why everyone judges - that would be because he posted the video on the internet for us to do precisely that. Pretty obvious really.

Really, when was the last time you head a pilot come on the intercom using such language when addressing the passengers?
